St. Louis Stats
Yeah, St. Louis was a couple weeks ago. But, with just four rounds left in the series, it’s getting down to crunch time in your fantasy leagues. It’s time to start taking chances. What chances will bring you the most points? Below we have stats from St. Louis that will help you make those tricky decisions. The stats stack up like this: finish position in St. Louis, how many players had Rider A in the main, how many players picked the exact position of Rider A, and how many points players scored via Rider A that week. Let’s take a look.
Ronnie Stewart
Finished: 20
Players that picked him to make the main: 1147
Players that picked his finish on the money: 271
Dynasty Points Scored: 25,530
Notes: Since returning from injury in Detroit, Candy Man is a perfect two-for-two in mains. The week off should have helped his fitness, and remember, his home race in New York…err, East Rutherford is coming up.
Killy Rusk
Finished: 19
In Main: 1124
On Money: 197
Dynasty Points: 24,493
Notes: Rusk has feasted on mains the last four rounds—making four of four and finishing inside the top fifteen twice. He’s a rider who’s taken advantage of a growing list of injuries. Start moving him toward the top fifteen.
Tony Archer
Finished: 17
In Main: 155
On Money: 1
Dynasty Points: 2,705
Notes: Archer has made two of the last three mains and could garner you max points. As the numbers note above, only 155 people had him making the main in St. Louis. Use that to your advantage.
Adam Enticknap
Finished: 16
In Main: 986
On Money: 11
Dynasty Points: 17,153
Notes: The Seven Deuce Deuce has also made two of three mains, with a season-high sixteenth coming in St. Louis. He should be a main-event mainstay the last four rounds. Put him around seventeenth for max points.
Ben LaMay
Finished: 15
In Main: 1307
On Money: 339
Dynasty Points: 30,646
Notes: He should definitely be in your main event. Where, you ask? He has consecutive top-fifteens—that’s not a bad place to start.
Nicholas Schmidt
Finished: 14
In Main: 1256
On Money: 35
Dynasty Points: 21,925
Notes: Schmidt has quietly become a main-event regular. He’s made four of the last five and rode to a season-high fourteenth in St. Louis. A top-fifteen pick isn’t a stretch.
Here's an additional reminder on these privateer guys who make the main: You have a much better chance of nailing their final finishing position on the money. We've seen this year that Eli Tomac can finish anywhere between first and 22nd. A guy like Enticknap will probably never vary from the 15th-22nd spot, so that's a much narrower window.
Top Picks/Sleepers
With the return of the West Region, most of our attention will focus on them. We will still offer some sleepers in 450SX. Let’s start there.
450SX
Jason Anderson | St. Louis: 3rd
Anderson’s average pick in St. Louis was eighth. And, really, that was a smart pick judging by his results since A1: 6-7-10-9-10-6-7-9-7-17-21. Eighth was probably a good starting point. I would stick around there for now until we see if he can run off consecutive podiums.
Nick Wey | St. Louis: 12th
The veteran is streaking after consecutive twelfth-place finishes—his best finishes in 2015. With injuries mounting, 12–15 is a good spot for Wey.
Kyle Chisholm | St. Louis: 11th
Chisholm's another rider hitting a hot streak as of late. He's gone 13-12-11-11 the last four rounds. A good starting point is twelfth.
Josh Grant | St. Louis: 6th
It’s time to start believing in Josh Grant. His average position picked in St. Louis was eleventh. That’s too far back. Grant has ripped off six top-tens in the last seven rounds. It’s time to move him up if you have him outside the top ten.
250SX
Zach Osborne | 4th in points
The break was probably more beneficial to Osborne than anyone. Since breaking his thumb at the opener, Osborne failed to return to the podium over the next five rounds. With his thumb expected to be 100 percent this weekend, a podium isn’t a stretch.
Aaron Plessinger | 6th in points
The rookie has been a rock this season. Not many ebbs and flows in his game. I like another top-five this weekend.
Alex Martin | 9th in points
This has been the best season A-Mart has had in supercross. In two of the last five rounds, he had a podium (Oakland) and a top-five (San Diego) before the break. If he’s not too rusty, 5–10 is a must.
Josh Hansen | 8th in points
Hansen had his best performance (fourth) in San Diego before the break. We think he's rebuilding his fitness and race game after a few years off and wil keep getting better each week, with the layoff really helping. Look for another top-five this weekend.
Tommy Hahn | 11th in points
Hahn has been a perennial top-ten guy in his first year back, and like Hansen could keep getting better with time. He has three top tens in six rounds, and should be on your radar for a fourth this weekend.
Shane McElrath | 5th in points
McElrath has really blossomed this year. When we left the series, he was wrapping up a first career podium. Wouldn’t be a stretch to see him do it again.
Bonus Picks
It’s time to start pulling out the big guns. If you’re way back in your league, go ahead and start placing bets on pole positions, heat winners, and holeshots. You have nothing to lose (except dignity). If you’re within striking distance, hold off on pulling the holeshot trigger. It’s by far the biggest risk to take. You’re better off making solid main event picks and heat race winners. But there are players out there going Full Monty this weekend. To help, we’ve noticed a few trends.
Pole Position
This is going to be difficult for the 250SX West Region. The riders have been off more than two months and you really won’t know who's rusty and who isn’t. I would recommend staying away from the 250 guys. The 450 class is definitely worth looking into, though. At this point in the season, pole position is down to Eli Tomac and Ryan Dungey. You have a 50/50 chance. Pick one. Tomac has four poles this year, while Dungey has three. One thing to consider: If Dungey clinches this weekend, both riders may back it down a bit. Also, Ken Roczen and Justin Barcia could be back this weekend. Keep an eye on them going forward.
450SX Pole Position
Eli Tomac | 4 |
Trey Canard | 3 |
Ryan Dungey | 3 |
Ken Roczen | 2 |
Justin Barcia | 1 |
250SX West Region Pole Position
My Picks
As always, I’ll stick my neck out and make picks for the weekend. Proceed at your own risk.
450SX
Pole Position: Eli Tomac
Heat Winner: Ryan Dungey
Holeshot: Andrew Short
250SX West Region
Pole Position: Tyler Bowers
Heat Winner: Cooper Webb
Holeshot: Zach Bell
