For once, sanity returned to what has been a crazy and dramatic Monster Energy Supercross tour, as James Stewart checked out and cruised to his fourth win of the season—and his first since all the way back at Anaheim 2—ending the longest losing streak in his SX Class Career. Ryan Dungey took second ahead of Ryan Villopto, Chad Reed and Trey Canard.
This race didn’t feature the crazy drama of the last two months, as Stewart made short work of holeshooter Ivan Tedeco and Dungey to take the lead and the win. Dungey dealt with pressure from Reed early, shook it off, then Reed was under attack from Villopoto when he landed on a tuff block that had been kicked out onto the track. Villopoto got around him, but couldn’t close the gap to Dungey. Canard had a terrible start and nearly caught Reed, but Reed hung tough for fourth.
In the Lites class, Justin Barcia knifed past Blake Baggett in the second corner to steal the early lead. Ryan Sipes passed Baggett as well and ran close to Barcia, taking the lead at one point, but Barcia got him right back, settled down, and started pulling away. Baggett attacked Sipes for second, but couldn’t get around, and late in the race Sipes poured it on to take second. Dean Wilson had an off night and finished fourth ahead of Blake Wharton.
