Dean Ferris on the Podium Again
Monster Energy Kawasaki racer, Dean Ferris, has taken 3rd overall in Round 3 of the Australian Motocross Nationals, held at Raymond Terrace, NSW. Ferris and Coppins battled it out all day, with the pair proving to be the strongest at this round.
In the opening race of the day Ferris grabbed a solid start, tucking in right behind Josh Coppins and Daniel Reardon, whilst team mate Billy Mackenzie chased hard in 4th position. With the top 3 riders holding onto their positions the 111 Kawasaki of Ferris crossed the line in 3rd.
In moto 2 the race was on. As the riders exited the first turn it was Jay Marmont out front, with Dean Ferris on his tail and Josh Coppins pushing hard in 3rd. On lap 4 Ferris made his pass on Marmont to take the lead, leaving Coppins and Marmont fighting for 2nd. With just 2 laps remaining Coppins, who had over powered Marmont, was now pushing Ferris hard, and managed to slip past. With the chequered flag out it was Coppins who took the win, with Ferris just 2 seconds behind to take 2nd.
In moto 3 Ferris ripped the holeshot and just got his head down as Jay Marmont chased in 2nd. Coppins was down in 4th, but was on a mission and lap after lap was closing in on the leaders. With a few laps remaining Ferris and Coppins had gapped the rest of the pack and were battling between themselves for the race victory. Once again, with just a couple of laps to go, Coppins managed to slip past Ferris and held on for the win.
In the final moto of the day a poor start left Ferris fighting back through the pack. Lap after lap the Australian was fighting through the international field, ultimately getting himself in to 5th place.
With the points so close for the day, Ferris took 3rd overall and now sits 2nd in the championship 9 points behind Coppins.
Dean Ferris: “Today was positive. My goal was to back up last weekend’s podium with another solid result. I found my way into the lead in moto 1 and 2, even passing Coppins along the way, but he managed to pass me back later in the race as I got tired. All in all a good day, and the championship points are very close. I am gonna put some more hard work in over the next few weeks, and will be fighting to get that red plate back at the next round.”
