Morning Report
Things are up and running at Spring Creek this morning, and it promises to be another great day of racing. The two championship leaders, Haiden Deegan in the 250 Class and Jett Lawrence in the 450 Class, both have big points leads, but there’s more to the story than that. Deegan had a rare off day last week at RedBud and finished fifth overall, his worst finish of the season, while Jo Shimoda dominated with a 1-1 and cut Deegan’s gap down to 38 points from 58. Deegan was dealing with the painful aftermath of crash in qualifying, in which he took a handlebar to the thigh, and he's still feeling it today. Don't expect it to slow him down, however.
Lawrence has yet to lose an overall so far in 2025, and that’s a streak the competition would love to put to an end. Eli Tomac, who’s beat Lawrence in a couple motos so far, had a bad outing last week due to a mechanical failure in the first moto and a horrible start in the second. Look for him to rebound at Spring Creek. Chase Sexton, who made his return last week after crashing hard at the season opener, should be good today too. He was a bit rusty in the first moto at RedBud, but improved dramatically in the second. Expect that trend to continue today. Hunter Lawrence has also been very good this season and if things go just right, he might be the one to break his brother's winning streak.
On the injury front we’re missing several more riders this week. Jason Anderson is out with health issues, Grant Harlan, Derek Kelly, and Joey Savatgy are all out with leg injuries, and Cooper Webb is out for the remainder of the series with a knee injury. In the 250 Class Julien Beaumer is out with a jammed wrist. For a complete look at who’s on the sidelines today, check out our Injury Report.
Finally, today will mark the official conclusion of Jeremy Martin's professional career. A two-time 250 national champion, Martin will compete in his final race at the track his family owns, and where he literally grew up. A fitting location for Martin's final gate drop.
Qualifying – First Sessions
In qualifying it was the usual suspects up front. Haiden Deegan was fastest by a little over half a second in front of Seth Hammaker. Jo Shimoda never really got things going and 12th-fastest was the best he turned in with a 2:01.017. Expect that number to improve in the second qualifier.

In 450 action it was the Lawrence brothers up front, with Jett leading the charge. Eli Tomac and Chase Sexton, who finished this session in seventh and eighth, were about three-and-a-half seconds off Jett’s fastest lap. Justin Cooper was fourth-fastest, but he had a nasty high-side crash, and he looked a little shaken up. The track will be more broken in for the second round of qualifiers, so lap times should come down a bit more when the bikes roll back out soon.

Qualifying – Second Sessions
Michael Mosiman kicked off the second session by jumping to the top of the board with a 1:58.282, but that wouldn’t last long. In his third lap Haiden Deegan threw down with a 1:57.207. Shortly after that, none other than Jeremy Martin busted out some serious speed to move into second-fastest with a 1:57.754! Martin would go on to lower his own lap time to a 1:57.517, although Michael Mosiman would take over the second spot with a 1:57.443. Shoutout to Ryder DiFrancesco in this one. He was fastest last week and was very fast today, turning a 1:57.776, which was fourth-fastest in the second session.

In the 450 ranks Chase Sexton was fastest early, posting a 1:57.167, but soon after Jorge Prado put in a 1:56.610 to take over the lead. It wouldn’t last though, as Sexton charged back with a heater in his fourth lap, a 1:56.162, to reclaim the spot. Then, out of nowhere, RJ Hampshire dipped into the 1:55 range with a 1:55.611! That time would hold, too, making Hampshire the fastest qualifier in the second session. We thought times would drop in the second session, but they didn’t, so Jett Lawrence’s 1:53.219 from session one makes him the day’s fastest qualifier. He must have known he was looking good on lap times because he spent most of the second session dialing in sections and making adjustments to his bike. At no time did it look like he was concerned with being the fastest guy out there in this one. Afterward he said the track didn’t seem like it was ripped as deep as it usually is.

250 Moto One
Hometown hero Jeremy Martin kicked the first moto of the day off with a holeshot, sparking thunderous approval from the crowd. Seth Hammaker and Jo Shimoda gave chase, while Haiden Deegan ran in about sixth. Hammaker knew he needed to get around Martin as quickly as possible if he was going to make a break for it, which he did, going around Martin after almost a lap. A couple spots back Deegan was working on Shimoda, and was able to knife by and into third after the two came out of the descent from Mt. Martin. Deegan slowly inched away from Shimoda and went after Martin, who after eight minutes, was still going strong in second place.
Up front Hammaker continued to lead, but the small gap he’d built over Hammaker was starting to shrink, as Martin and Deegan were both closing. Hammaker responded and stabilized the situation, and after another five minutes Deegan was able to slice by Martin for second. Deegan went after Hammaker, but he didn’t have to work too hard to get into the lead because Hammaker made a mistake and crashed all by himself. He got going quickly but the damage was done, and just like that he’d dropped back to sixth place.
Back in third Shimoda was inching up on Martin, and with about ten minutes to go he was in position to make a move. When Martin took the outside in a sweeping righthander, Shimoda took a middle line, hammered down, and took away Martin’s line as the two exited the turn. At this point Shimoda caught fire and started taking chunks out of Deegan’s lead. With about five minutes left Shimoda was all over Deegan in the sand whoops, and as the duo blasted through them Shimoda just rode right by and took the lead. Shimoda wasn’t able to break away though, and after a few laps Deegan motored right by Shimoda in a right hander. It happened so fast it looked like Shimoda might not have even known Deegan was that close! Deegan made a break for it and it looked like it was over, but on the last lap Shimoda was suddenly all over Deegan again! Deegan held on to take the win, however, despite dealing with a hurt leg, injured last week at RedBud. Jeremy Martin took third to the delight of the crowd.
Late in the race Levi Kitchen was moving forward and working on Max Vohland for ninth, but he made a mistake when he was passing Vohland and went down, taking Vohland with him. Vohland dropped back to tenth, while Kitchen got going again in 14th. Hammaker also had a crash late in the race while running fifth. He looked like he was hurting and that was it for his moto. He was credited with 27th.

450 Moto Two
When the gate dropped Aaron Plessinger made a serious bid for the holeshot, but Jett Lawrence would squeeze him out and take over the lead, followed by his brother, Hunter. It looked like Jett might make a break for it but as he exited the sand whoops he pushed in the ensuing righthander and went down. The pack was right behind him too and he dropped back to about 15th. That put Hunter in the lead, with Plessinger, Jorge Prado, Eli Tomac, and Chase Sexton rounding out the top five.
Prado had Tomac all over him and was unable to hold him off, which put Tomac in third. Prado then found himself under fire from Sexton. A pass seemed inevitable but Prado did a good job fending off Sexton before Sexton was able to rail an outside line and zip around Prado. Moments later, RJ Hampshire blew by Prado, dropping Prado to sixth. Shortly after that Prado dropped to seventh when Jett Lawrence went by him in the sand whoops.
Further up in the pack Tomac had closed on Plessinger and was applying all kinds of pressure. Tomac was able to make a move by railing the outside in a righthander, and Plessinger helped him out by making a mistake as he exited the turn. A few spots back Lawrence was riding at an astounding rate and making moves fast. He went around both Sexton and Plessinger at the same time and went after Tomac, catching him extremely quickly. Lawrence then won the drag race up Mt. Martin, moved into second, and went after Hunter, who was about nine seconds clear in the lead. Tomac, meanwhile, seemed like he backed it down and Sexton rode right by in the sand rollers. A few laps later Tomac found himself under attack from Hampshire, who was also able to zap Tomac in the sand rollers.
Up front Hunter Lawrence was turning extremely fast laps, and it’s a good thing for him he was because Jett made a bid to catch up. At one point Jett got the lead down to six seconds, but Hunter was riding so well it would have taken a tremendous effort from Jett to continue to close the gap. At a certain point it looked like Jett simply accepted second place and settled in.
Plessinger would eventually drop out of this moto, likely related to the illness that kept him out of the second moto last week at RedBud. Tony Cairoli went down right off the start in this moto and finished 23rd. Prado’s woes continued the whole race. He lost more spots to Malcolm Stewart, Justin Barcia, Coty Schock, Valentin Guillod, and Lorenzo Locurcio. He finished 12th.

250 Moto Two
The start to the second 250 moto was a lot like the first, with hometown boy Jeremy Martin streaking out to a huge holeshot. Jo Shimoda was a couple lengths back, with Jalek Swoll close behind Shimoda. Mikkel Haarup got around Swoll for third a few laps into it, at which point Haiden Deegan was running fifth after a mediocre start.
Up front Martin was stubbornly clinging to the lead, despite relentless pressure from Shimoda. Turn after turn Shimoda was searching for a spot to make a move, and time and time again Martin shut him down. Finally Shimoda was able to get by Martin in the whoops, and Martin wasn’t able to mount a counterattack. Martin then found himself fending off the attacks of a surging Haarup.
A couple spots back the battle for fourth was heating up between Swoll and Deegan. Deegan wasn’t interested in letting it boil over, however, and it wasn’t long before he sliced by Swoll and set his focus on catching Haarup. Then, about 12 minutes in, Shimoda went off the track momentarily. Martin pounced on the opportunity and rocketed back into the lead, while Shimoda looked over at the mechanic’s area and signaled frantically at something with his hand. From that point Shimoda was slightly off his previous pace, and it looked like he might be dealing with a mechanical problem, possibly brakes. Behind Shimoda was Deegan, who’d gotten around Haarup, but Shimoda didn’t have much fight for Deegan. With about thirteen minutes to go Martin held the lead, with Deegan about three seconds back.
As the laps continued to elapse Deegan wasn’t really chipping away at Martin’s gap, which was still holding solid at roughly three seconds. As the race clock continued to count down, it became apparent there was a very real chance Martin just might be able to win the final moto of his career. His chances started looking stronger and stronger as the race wound down too. He was setting faster laps than the guys behind him, and with just over a minute on the clock Martin’s lead was up to nearly six seconds over Deegan, who had about ten seconds on Haarup. On the final lap Martin had stretched it to nearly ten seconds on Deegan and the crowd was going crazy for him. When he crossed the line to win the moto and take second overall (Deegan took the overall), the place exploded in applause and people immediately started lining up to congratulate Martin.
Vialle went down on the first lap in this one going into the sand whoops. His bike was twisted up and he DNF’d. Hammaker also DNF’d this one. He started well, but ended up pulling off during the moto due to the effects felt from his crash in the first moto. After the race Shimoda confirmed his rear brakes had stopped working.

450 Moto Two
Jett Lawrence shot out to a holeshot in the second 450 moto with Hunter Lawrence on his heels. Coty Schock ran third early but Chase Sexton took the spot away on the first lap. Schock then found himself locked in a battle with Jorge Prado. Initially Prado was able to get the pass made, but Schock fought back and was able to get back around Prado for fourth. Then Schock jumped off the Chadapult at a funny angle and kind of landed off the track. Prado whizzed by and Justin Barcia went by Schock shortly after that, followed by RJ Hampshire about a lap later.
Tomac got a bad start and found himself quite a ways back early, but about eight minutes in he’d collected himself and was charging forward in tenth. He got by Malcolm Stewart, but Stewart wasn’t interested in riding behind Tomac and fought back, successfully retaking the spot, then went by Justin Cooper for ninth. Tomac followed suite, but at this point it looked like his charge had stalled. Tomac made his way around Schock late in the race for ninth, but that was the best he could muster.
Still leading was Jett, but Hunter was keeping him honest, holding the gap to under two seconds. For a considerable amount of time it looked like Hunter might actually be able to eventually run Jett down, but just as we’ve seen so many times in the past, Jett started slowly inching away from Hunter as the race went on. When the checkers flew it was Jett and Hunter Lawrence taking first and second, with Sexton, Hampshire, and Prado rounding out the top five.
