51FIFTY Yamaha’s Tyler Bowers sustained a fractured right femur in qualifying Saturday at round four of Monster Energy Supercross in Glendale, Arizona, the team confirmed. The crash occurred in a difficult rhythm section, where Bowers cased a triple and was thrown over the front of the bars. His bike proceeded to hit Jeremy Martin, who was following Bowers through the section. Martin ended up not racing that night as a precaution, as the team said he “banged his head.”
Bowers tried to continue the session, but quickly realized something wasn’t right, so he pulled into the mechanics area. "It hurt when I landed but the adrenaline was going so I tried to do a few more laps," he said in a team statement. "Each time I would land off the jumps I could just feel something wasn't right."
The team said Bowers is optimistic he can return after the 250SX West Region break.
The team’s second rider, Hayden Mellross, was ruled out of Glendale last week after suffering a hand injury in the main event at Anaheim 2. According to a team press release, the team is expected to announce one, possibly two, riders to fill-in this weekend in Oakland.
