With the 2016 Motocross of Nations almost less than a month away, rosters for the event are beginning to fill in at a steady rate. Today, the host nation, Italy, announced their team.
After missing last year’s event due to injury, eight-time world champion Tony Cairoli returns to captain the squad in the MXGP Class. Without Cairoli on the team a year ago, Italy finished a disappointing fourteenth overall.
Michele Cervellin (Open) and Samuele Bernardini (MX2) both return from last year’s team. Bernardini is currently eighth in the MX2 Class in the FIM World Motocross Championship; Cervellin, who is moving up for the Nations, is sixteenth in MX2.
Italy last won the event in 2002 in Spain.
