MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The final step in qualifying for the 35th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, begins this weekend in two regions across the United States. Amateur racers in the Southeast and both amateur and youth racers in the Northwest will continue their quest to compete in the world's largest and most prestigious amateur motocross race at the iconic Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
Muddy Creek Raceway in Blountville, Tennessee will play host to the Southeast Regional Championship this weekend, May 28 and 29. In addition, Washougal MX Park will produce the Northwest Amateur and Youth Regional Championship with a special Memorial Day race schedule on Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30.
"Over twenty-one thousand attempts to qualify at the Area Qualifiers ensures full gates at our Regional Championships," said MX Sports Director Tim Cotter. "This phase of the qualifying process is perhaps the most significant in the program. Over the next several weeks nearly 9,000 competitors will attempt to punch their ticket to the National Championship. We wish all of the athletes luck in their journey."
The Regional Championships serve as the final step in seeding riders for the world's largest and most prestigious amateur motocross championship. Only riders who finish in a qualifying position at a Regional Championship are eligible to race the AMA Amateur National the week of August 1 - 6, 2016.
"The Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship is the pinnacle of amateur motocross competition," said AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow. "As the Area Qualifiers begin to wrap up, riders advancing to the Regional Championships can focus on preparing themselves for the high intensity of racing that the Regional Championships demand. Qualified riders from around the globe will participate in any one of the 13 Regional Championships spread across the country, at America's best race tracks, with hopes of making it to the National at the Loretta Lynn Ranch in early August."
Riders who earned a qualifying spot from their results in an Area Qualifier must pre-register online for the corresponding Regional Championship in order to guarantee their spot. Riders will receive a Rocky Mountain ATV/MC $20 gift card for each Regional Championship they pre-register for. This is part of the Race Gas Fast Track program sponsored by Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. Gift cards are mailed to eligible racers after each Regional Championship has ended.
“Rocky Mountain ATV/MC has reaffirmed their commitment to the Loretta Lynn program,” said MX Sports Director Tim Cotter. “The Race Gas gift card initiative has put tens of thousands of dollars back into amateur race budgets. This program has been perhaps the most significant gift to amateur racing families in recent memory.”
Those who qualify at a Regional Championship will be eligible to race at Loretta Lynn’s in the first week of August. Rocky Mountain ATV/MC serves as the title sponsor for the event.
