Motorcycle Superstore Suzuki’s Jimmy Albertson raced the 250SX East Region main event in Toronto with a broken sternum, he announced on Instagram last night. Albertson said he sustained the injury in a crash in the first timed practice.
This is the second setback for Albertson this season, as he fractured his foot prior to the season. Alberston gutted out a fourteenth place finish in Toronto, and we saw him in the pits after the race with a giant bag on ice on his chest, but still smiling as always. He said he hopes he can race this weekend in Detroit.
“In my crash in the first timed practice I broke my sternum pretty bad right were it starts below my neck. I'm glad there is going to be a few weeks off after Detroit! I'm going to try my hardest to be as ready as possible for this weekend.”
The injury is yet another blow for the first year team, as it is already without rookies Mark Worth and Josh Osby. Kyle Cunningham is currently riding the 450 on the East Coast, but he pulled off after eight laps in Toronto holding his hand. We’ll update more on the status of Albertson and Cunningham later in the week.
