Anaheim 2 Round 5 Race Report In front of another sold-out crowd at Angel Stadium on Saturday night for round five of the 2012 AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship season, Kyle Chisholm steadily brought home his fourth consecutive 12 th place SX Main finish for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team. Codie Mackie, who was filling-In again for injured Josh Grant, unfortunately missed the SX Main for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team after finishing 18 th due to sustaining a crash with Justin Sipes late in his Heat race and finishing fourth in the SX Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ).

Leading up to the SX Main, Chisholm finished 8 th quickest in his SX Group A first qualifying practice with a lap time of 58.659. Mackie, who was in SX Group C, finished his first qualifying practice on top of the board with a lap time of 1:00.818. Both riders went on to pick up speed in their final qualifying practices with Chisholm finishing 7 th fastest with a lap time of 56.804 and Mackie sitting on top of the board again in his group with a lap time of 58.707. Those times put Chisholm 7 th fastest overall in Heat 2 and Mackie 20 th fastest overall in Heat 1. Chisholm ran another solid Heat race finishing seventh to make the Main, giving the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing their only entry of the evening.

Mackie put together a solid Heat race as well and was running in the 8 th position on the last lap of his race until Sipes crashed into him trying to make a pass. That caused Mackie to fall to 16 th and unfortunately into the LCQ where he needed to finish first or second to advance to the Main. Chisholm’s 12 th place finish in the SX Main keeps him 13 th in series points with 43, ten points outside of the top-10. Grant’s return from injury will continue to be evaluated on a week-to-week basis with Mackie filling-in until his return.
