TLD Race Report - Unadilla
August 15, 2011, 9:30am
As the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Series got back underway after a two-week break, the TLD crew was anxious to put in some solid finishes. After a couple difficult and frustrating weekends of racing, Seely, Craig and Baker were all looking for redemption in upstate New York.
Christian Craig started the day off right with a second place start in moto one. Craig had been sidelined with an injured wrist since the Millville round and the time off definitely took its toll. After staying with the leaders for a lap or two, Christian slowly dropped off the pace and settled into a rhythm. He would finish the moto a respectable ninth, not bad considering his time off the bike.
The second moto didn't go quite as well. On the opening lap Craig took a massive boulder to the face and had to stop in the mechanics area for new goggles. The impromptu pit stop would cost him some time and he was only able to claw his way back to 22nd position by the end of the race. Still, Christian left in 15th overall on the day and a good starting point heading into the last three rounds.
The 250 guys both had decent first motos. Cole Seely started the moto around tenth and moved up a couple positions early on. Towards the end of the race two Pro Circuit riders went by and relegated him to 9th position at the checkers. Travis Baker didn't get a good start and rode to a 16th in the opening moto.
The second round saw Baker picking himself up in turn one while Seely again started around 10th. Baker would dust himself off and push to 18th in the moto for 20th overall on the day. Seely put in consistent laps for 11th in moto two and 10th overall.
There is another weekend off following the Unadilla round and the Troy Lee Designs squad will use it to prepare for an assault on the final three rounds of the series in Southwick, Steel City and Pala Raceway. Look for a determined and focused effort from all the team riders and the season winds down. As always, be sure to stop by and say hello to the team riders and crew at a national motocross round near you.
Christian, Cole and Travis are wearing the 2012 Grand Prix Beast Gear, available soon at your local retailer.
