Unbound Energy-Backed Wharton Podiums at Washougal

CARLSBAD, Calif. – With his best finish of the 2009 MX National season, Unbound Energy-backed Blake Wharton led the GEICO Powersports/Honda team this past weekend, locking down dual 3rd place finishes at Washougal (Wash.) MX Park for an overall and career-best 2nd place 250 class finish on Saturday, round eight of the Lucas Oil AMA MX National.
And right in Wharton’s shadow for both motos was his Unbound Energy-backed GEICO Powersports/Honda teammate, Brett Metcalfe, who would go 4th/4th on the afternoon for 4th place overall in the 250 class.
“As a team we had a fairly solid weekend,” said Wharton. “I’m for sure pleased with my podium finish and the confidence that goes with it and hope I can get back up here some more before the summer’s done.”
Last weekend’s podium finisher for the Unbound Energy-backed GEICO Powersports/Honda team, Justin Barcia, ran into some first moto bad luck and had to salvage a 16th place finish. The rookie pro did rally back in the second moto and placed 7th, good enough for 11th overall. And fellow rookie Alex Martin, a new addition to the team following the injury to Trey Canard, placed 17th on the day.
Next up for Unbound Energy’s Barcia, Metcalfe and Martin on the MX National circuit is the Aug. 15th Unadilla (N.Y.) MX National. Check out what’s happening with the GEICO Powersports/Honda Team – fueled by Unbound Energy – at www.unboundenergy.com
