First Qualifying Sessions

In the first qualifying sessions, Levi Kitchen set the tone early in the 250 class, setting a time that was 1.6 second faster than everyone else. However, his closest title rival was second fastest, Cole Davies, with his Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing teammate Michael Mosiman in third. Drew Adams had one of his best times of the year in fourth and Casey Cochran who is becoming known for setting fast qualifying times in fifth.

In the 450 class it was Haiden Deegan setting the fastest time in the first session, 0.344 faster than red plate holder Jett Lawrence. A little further back in time was Hunter Lawrence in third, Jorge Prado in fourth and a welcome back to Eli Tomac in fifth. The question is, will these times hold or will the track get faster for the second session and as the day goes on?

Second Qualifying Sessions

Qualifying session number two and Cole Davies topped his first session time on the second lap, setting the tone early. However, it was the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki duo of Drew Adams and Levi Kitchen swapping pole position. Both riders were flying but in the end it was Drew Adams with the fastest time 0.198 over Kitchen. Davies was third, Ryder DiFrancesco fourth and Michael Mosiman rounded out the top five.

In the 450 class, second session was again faster than the first with all the the riders shuffling for fastest position. But in the end it was Hunter Lawrence to top the board by more than a half of a second over Deegan. Jett Lawrence was third with RJ Hampshire in fourth and Jorge Prado in fifth. The track is bound to change as the day goes on, and starts play a huge role in the finish so we will see how these results look after 30 minutes plus two.

LCQ’s

In the 250 last chance qualifier it was Tre Fierro who got out to the early lead and was setting a fast pace out front. However it was the local boy from Wisconsin, McGrath who set the fastest time of the race and came from out of the top four to move into qualifying position. He eventually got into third before settling in behind Jace Hinrichs in second. Christopher Schroder took the final qualifying spot.

In 450 LCQ and it was Minnesota’s Zach Williams with the early lead. These LCQ’s are quick so first lap position is important. Ayden Shive started further back but was able to make moves into the qualifying positions. In the end it was Williams, Brett Heidorn, Kyle Petrie, and Ayden Shive. 

250 Moto 1

In 250 moto 1 there were two massive crashes in the first two corners, in the second corner both championship contenders Davies and Kitchen went down hard when Carson Wood came into Davies. Both Kitchen and Davies got up quickly and started working their way up, until disaster struck and Davies bike let go. Out front it was the rookie Kayden Minear leading laps until his teammate Michael Mosiman made pass. But it was Julien Beaumer who was coming on strong, trying to take advantage of the top two in points having a rough moto. Beaumer caught and passed Minear for second. Then with only a couple of laps to go Beaumer caught Mosiman and those two fought one of the hardest battles of the year the entire last lap, with Beaumer barely edging him out for the win. Meanwhile charging from the back was Levi Kitchen, fifth through ninth was in an intense five-way battle, Kitchen was able to catch the group but was only able to get around Chance Hymas for eighth. Still even with the bad moto for Kitchen he will take the points lead over from Davies who was unable to finish.

450 Moto 1

In the first 450 moto and it was Hunter Lawrence with the holeshot, but it was Haiden Deegan who went down in turn one, pushing Jorge Prado off the track. And the action just does not stop here at Spring Creek! Justin Barcia started in third and immediately started putting pressure on Jett Lawrence for second. Eventually Barcia settled in for third but not for long as RJ Hampshire made his way into third and would ride strong all moto to stay there. Deegan put on a very impressive ride to charge all the way back to get Barcia for fourth right on the last lap. Tomac started tenth and made a couple of passes but also lost a position to a hard charging Deegan. Garrett Marchbanks and Mikkel Haarup came together on the first lap as well, Haarup did not finish the moto, but Marchbanks about halfway through was consistently putting in lap times that was one of the fastest on the track, though he was only able to work his way up to 15^th by the end. In the end it was a Hunter Lawrence with a 16 second lead over Jett.

Second Motos

250 Moto 2

In 250 moto two it was Kayden Minear with the holeshot, Mosiman in second and Beaumer in third, all three podium finishers from the first moto in the top three. Davies was in fourth and Kitchen back in ninth. But then wow! What didn’t happen in this moto? Mosiman and Davies both went down at the same time but not together. Davies would go on to crash two more times and finished in 13^th falling back from first to third in the points. Kitchen worked his way up, and was the fastest rider on the track at one point, but also he was feeling sore after his first moto crash so one has to assume that caught up with him. Meanwhile upfront Chance Hymas who finished ninth in the first moto made his way into the lead, Kitchen in second put a run on him but was unable to close in. Minear faded back to sixth after leading the moto, but has shown he has the speed to ride up front. Another rider able to ride up front? Carson Mumford! He charged to the front and was able to finish the moto in third, not far behind Kitchen. Kitchen was able to take over the championship lead, meanwhile Julien Beaumer went 1-4 for the overall. His first ever outdoors. 

450 Moto 2

For the final moto of the day, it was Hunter Lawrence once again with Jett right behind him and Cooper Webb in third. Prado was able to make quick work of Webb to get into third, meanwhile Deegan was much better off the start this time (at least he wasn’t on the ground) in sixth. Ten minutes in and Jett made a pass for the lead and Deegan was pressuring Jorge for third. Deegan was able to pass for third and Hampshire tried closing in on Prado as well. Then as this summer has gone, disaster happened for the leader. Jett took a new line to get around a lapper, lost the front end and went down. Then the bike flipped up, hit him in the leg and the handlebars got stuck in his boot. He lost a lot of time trying to get unstuck, and fell back to fifth, allowing Deegan, Prado and Hampshire all by. Hampshire pulled into the rear of Prado at the end but was unable to make a pass. While Hunter rode it in for a 1-1.
