CJ Benard Update After Budds Creek National Qualifying Crash

AEO Powersports KTM Racing’s CJ Benard went down hard in the second 250 Class group A qualifying session at the AMA Pro Motocross Championship finale. The rookie came up short on the Big Gulp triple near the middle of the track and slammed down hard very early in the session. This caused a red flag so that the Alpinestars medical crew to tend to him.
Benard took to Instagram to provide an update, saying he dislocated his hip, fractured his sternum and broke a rib. Benard finished 33rd in the 250 Class Championship, scoring a season-best 19th overall at the Washougal National (20-18 moto finishes). Here is Benard’s post.
“UPDATE
Ended up hitting a kicker on a lip in q2 on saturday and just wasn’t expecting it. Went over the bars ended up dislocating my hip and braking a little piece of the socket that is now stuck there. Also have a fracture on my sternum and a broken rib. I’m hoping to go in for surgery sometime this week to get the bone fragment removed from my hip joint. Thank you to everyone for all the prayers and for reaching out means a lot ❤️”
