Drew Adams Wins 2025 Marty Smith Rookie of the Year Award in Pro Motocross

After Drew Adams finished 5-10 for eighth overall at the AMA Pro Motocross Championship finale, Adams received the 2025 Marty Smith Rookie of the Year Award. Adams jumped into the pro scene in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, scoring eighth at the Anaheim 2 Supercross in the rain, but suffered a broken collarbone at his second race in qualifying in Arizona. The #98 earned eighth and tenth at the final two rounds of supercross, then ramped up for a full go in Pro Motocross.
A finger injury at the High Point National caused him to miss the Southwick National, but the Tennessee native made the other ten events and showed signs of progress each week.
He earned his first: top five moto finish at the Thunder Valley National; top ten overall at the Washougal National; and top five overall at the Ironman National; fastest overall qualifier at the Unadilla National. Adams looked to have the top overall qualifying time again at Budds Creek and was pulled up to the podium Saturday for his TV interview…just to be bumped back to second place as the clock expired by his teammate Seth Hammaker! The two shared a laugh, but the strong qualifying positions show Adams’ continued growth. Then, he was running in third in moto one of the finale before finishing fifth.
Last year, Adams received the coveted Nicky Hayden AMA Motocross Horizon Award at the Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, this year, he earns the top rookie award.
Adams said the following in the post-race Kawasaki release:
“Budds Creek was a day of ups and downs. I qualified P2, which was exciting, even though Seth [Hammaker] got me right at the very end of the session. In Moto 1, I went P5—not my best, but still solid. In Moto 2, I finished P10, which wasn’t where I wanted to be. The highlight of the day, though, was earning Rookie of the Year. That was my goal from the start of the season, and I’m really proud to have achieved it. Now I’m focused on making the next step into SMX.”
The Tennessee native will enter the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) Playoffs 16th in 250SMX points.
