After a week filled with racing in the heat of Tennessee, complete with highs, lows, and everything in between, the coveted Nicky Hayden AMA Motocross Horizon Award will be presented at the conclusion of the Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. The racing starts next week, and the award, presented to the athlete showing the most promise heading into the professional ranks, has been around since 1997. Ahead of the 2017 event, the award was re-named to honor Nicky Hayden after his passing earlier that summer in a cycling accident. Hayden, a legend, was the first-ever Horizon Award winner in the flat track category.
Nick Wey was the first rider to receive the motocross award '97, and it has gone to a different rider every year since, although there was one year—2008—that saw both Darryn Durham (Suzuki) and P.J. Larsen (Kawasaki) share the award.
The 2024 Nicky Hayden AMA Motocross Horizon Award went to Team Green Kawasaki’s Drew Adams. The #33 finished 4-1-1 in his motos for the 250 Pro Sport title and his three-moto wins swept the Open Pro Sport title. He became the first Kawasaki rider to receive the Horizon Award since Jason Anderson received the award in 2010.
Drew Adams receiving the Nicky Hayden AMA Motocross Horizon Award at @LorettaLynnMX is the first time a Kawasaki rider has received the award since Jason Anderson received it in 2010.

With the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship coming up next week, we decided to take a look at the Loretta Lynn’s titles for all of the Motocross Horizon Award winners. In total, these 29 different riders have compiled 135 total titles at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch!
One thing to consider is that of the recent winners, the last Horizon award winner to win a premier class title is Chase Sexton, who won the award in 2016. Sexton has both a 450SX title in Monster Energy AMA Supercross (2023) and a 450 Class title in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship (2024).
There will be some fast Pro Sport riders at the Ranch battling next weekend. So, who do you think leaves with the ’25 Horizon award? Give us your predictions below.
