Double Header WSX Results from Perth, Australia
The FIM WSX series visited Perth, Australia for rounds two and three of the 2024 championship, with events on Saturday and Sunday. Eli Tomac once again dominated the proceedings, winning all four races on Saturday (three motos and then Superfinal which features 250s and 450s together) and then winning three of four on Sunday. Tomac also dominated round one a few weeks ago in Vancouver, Canada, so he's now in firm control of the championship with one round remaining.
"Overall it was just a great night of racing," said Tomac after winning on Saturday. "The track was fun and that finish line jump was huge. That was really fun. Right now everything is just working, trying to put everything together, limit the mistakes and just keep getting better. Don’t get complacent."
Ken Roczen, the two-time and defending WSX Champ, remains Tomac's biggest threat, but bad starts plagued him on Saturday. In the Superfinal he did finally gate well and pressured Tomac before crashing.
The Superfinal, by the way, takes the top riders from both classes and pits them together. In Vince Friese news, we heard he did not qualify for the Superfinal but ended up going to the gate and racing anyway! The series put out a post on Twitter/X saying it was investigating an incident, we presume it was the Friese situation.
Next came Sunday. Perhaps the best battle of the weekend came in Race 2, as Joey Savatgy led while Tomac and Roczen engaged in a pretty good fight for second, which you can see below.
Below are the Sunday results
In SX2 (250) racing, Shane McElrath continues to be the alpha in the series, but Coty Schock was on his game all weekend, taking two of the six mains to McElrath's four.
We're hoping to receive more materials from WSX, including photos and highlights, shortly. We'll post them as soon as they are available.
