In the press release confirming an earlier report from DC Shoes regarding the return of James Stewart this weekend at the Spring Creek National, Yoshimura Suzuki also confirmed an earlier report from Jason Weigandt that Blake Baggett reinjured his shoulder at Southwick last weekend. According to the team, Baggett will miss the remainder of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
“It’s a tough break to lose Blake for the season. He’s been such a warrior fighting back and racing with injury and pushing himself all the way to some solid finishes,” said team manager Mike Webb in a statement. “We couldn’t be more pleased with his efforts.”
Baggett originally broke his collarbone at Hangtown, underwent surgery, tried to race Glen Helen less than a week later, pulled out after the first moto and missed the next two rounds. He also hurt his other shoulder while trying to compensate. Since returning at the Tennessee National, Baggett had strung together four consecutive top ten moto finishes before reinjuring his shoulder in qualifying at Southwick on Saturday.
Fill-in rider Matt Bisceglia was also injured at the event, after a huge crash during the LCQ race. According to a team statement earlier this week, Bisceglia sustained fractured ribs and a partially collapsed lung. He will miss the next two rounds and is expected to return at Unadilla on August 13.
The good news: Suzuki announced that Bisceglia will remain with the team for the remainder of the season. “Matt’s been doing a great job filling in and we look forward to his return at Unadilla,” said Webb.
