Bob Hannah Stars in New Commercial

The Hurricane is from a time when riders weren’t afraid to speak their minds. When 45-minute motos were considered a warm-up. When Americans were out to beat those stinkin' commies. During a fourteen year career that included six AMA Supercross and Motocross titles, Bob Hannah pissed excellence and wasn’t afraid to tell you about it. Hannah is still around the scene—although not as much as many wish—and recently had a role in the latest commercial from Yamalube. How do you not love this man?

What Does STP mean?

I literally had no clue until I watched this video—unless we’re talking about Stone Temple Pilots, the early 90s alternative rock band from San Diego. STP is also that famous logo that was on the hood of like 7 billion Richard Petty NASCAR wins. Yet, even hardcore NASCAR fans don't even know what STP actually stands for. Pretty sure this video was paid for by STP, but that just makes it brilliant marketing.

Mountain Diet

If, like myself, you’re a big fan of HBO’s "Game of Thrones" then you’re aware of the 7 foot tall, 395 pound character called the Mountain. His real name is Hafþór Júlíus "Thor" Björnsson and he’s a professional strongman and former basketball player (for real. Can you imagine that dude sprinting full speed down the court at you?) from Iceland. He was actually featured in Vice documentary called “The Giants of Iceland.” Anyhow, you could only imagine how much this guy eats in one da….. oh, wait he actually posted it on Facebook. Check this out.

6:50 Morning workout! Cardio + CORE for 30min Bcca, Glutamine + handful of almonds
7:30 8 eggs + 200gr Oats + blueberries & strawberries + avocado
9:30 400gr Beef, 400gr Sweet potatoes, handful of spinach & greens
11:50 Bcca, glutamine
12:00 400gr Chicken + 400gr potatoes, greens + some fruits
14:00 Blender = 150gr oats or sweet potatoes, 2 bananas 150gr kelloggs rice krispies, frozen berries, handful almonds, peanut butter and glutamine
14:30 Training strongman, Bcca, glutamine, Vitargo
17:30 60gr protein + 2 bananas
18:00 500gr beef + potatoes, greens
20:30 500gr salmon + 500gr sweet potatoes
22:30 50gr casein protein or 6 eggs + avocado + 30gr almonds + 50gr peanut butter

This some serious eating. The Business Insider actually has a pretty cool breakdown of it all.

The Save

This may be the save of the year. Elvira Karlsson, an 18-year-old Swedish Pro Stock rider, caught a serious case of the speed wobbles near the end of her run, but amazingly somehow hung on to save it.

This reminds me of this incredible save from Weston Peick at Glen Helen last year.

Dude…..

The Doctor

Whether you’re a MotoGP or not, the first part of a five part series from Monster Energy on Valentino Rossi is worth checking out.

Motocross is Everywhere

If you’re a regular reader of this column, then you know that motocross has been popping up in the mainstream news a ton recently. From Prince to Gronk to former MLB player Adam LaRoche to actor Matt LaBlanc, all have a passion for the sport we all love. (Gronk used to ride four-wheelers, so lay off.) Now dirt bikes are featured in a rap video with icons Kanye West and Nas (and some other guy named French Montana). The riders featured are X Games gold medalist Jarryd McNeil and Garrett Ahlf. (If you don’t like the song mute it, don’t complain about it.) #dirtbikesforpresident

Walking Dead Star Gets Motorcycle Show

EVEN MORE MAINSTREAM MOTO NEWS! Norman Reedus, from the hit show “Walking Dead,” is getting his own motorcycle-related show on AMC. I have never watched “Walking Dead” (sue me), so I can’t tell you much about the show, or Norman for that matter. I know it involves Zombies. But, any channel that is willing to feature motorcycles is cool by me. There will be six one-hour episodes of “Ride with Norman Reedus,” beginning on June 12 on AMC. Lance Oliver from Revzilla has more on another motorcycle show about to hit your TV set.

The other motorcycle programming coming up later this year is something completely different. The Discovery Channel says its miniseries, "Harley and the Davidsons," "tells the epic story of how two 19-year-old kids from Milwaukee started a company in their backyard that would go on to become an American legend."

Of course there are a lot of arguments about what's legend and what's truth in the Harley-Davidson story. (Anyone want to debate the tomato can carburetor?) So will the six-hour miniseries dig deep for the facts or take the easy route and fill in the blanks with Hollywood-style invented drama? Should we be scratching our heads that this thoroughly American topic is being addressed by a production company based in Great Britain that Discovery purchased?

Check out the trailer for "Ride with Norman Reedus."

Fowler Goes Big

Rickie Fowler is a dirt bike rider who happens to play golf for a living. For a hobby, Fowler is quite good, and makes millions upon millions of dollars on the PGA Tour. The Players Championship, widely considered golf’s fifth major, at TPC Sawgrass, which is currently underway, features one of the toughest par 3’s in golf—a small island green that is tough to hit for even the best golfers. Fowler, who won the event last year, decided to step it up a notch and try and hit the green blindfolded.

Because last year @RickieFowler went on No. 17 Sunday, we tried to make things a little tougher. https://t.co/ullhCs4IDA

Like we said, pretty good for just a hobby. #dirtbikesforpresident

360fly to Stream Isle of Man

The Isle of Man TT is a legendary—awe hell, if you don’t know what the Isle of Man is, you’re reading the wrong site. This year's coverage is stepping up a notch, as 360fly is providing a live stream 360 via the Livit platform and will distribute playback content through Isle of Man TT’s social media channels—all in 4k. Footage will be available on YouTube (Isle of Man TT and 360fly) and Facebook (Isle of Man TT and 360fly).

“Isle of Man TT is an incredible event that the vast majority of race fans are unable to attend due to its secluded location,” said Peter Adderton, 360fly CEO. “The ability to not only track rider perspectives, but also pan in 360-degrees across the Island’s breathtaking terrain, will bring an entirely new dimension to how fans experience this unparalleled racing event.”

Check out a preview. (* Note: this was shot on the 360fly HD camera. Content during the Isle of Man TT will be done on the 360fly’s new 4K camera.)

This is amazing

How much would it cost if a person would to purchase, say, three of these? Asking for a friend.

This week in skiing

A nutcase bombs a slope in the middle of the night and lives to tell about it—and then shares it with the world on his GoPro….

…. And this guy has a death wish.

Till next week.

Something I’m probably too old for but could totally get down with

HookIT On Hoops

The Golden State Warriors, led by two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry, set an NBA record this year with 73 wins (in 82 games) passing Michael Jordan’s legendary 1996 Chicago Bulls team. The Warriors, who call the Bay Area home, are easily the most popular team in the NBA right now, even surpassing the iconic gold and purple down the street in Los Angeles. During the final week of the NBA regular season, two major things were happening at the same time: the Warriors were going for a record 73 wins and after 20 years (all with the Lakers) and five NBA Championships, Kobe Bryant was retiring from the game. Hookit recently released a report that analyzed the teams logos in the two weeks prior Kobe’s final game and the Warriors record. Per Hookit, “All content and engagement data used for the valuation was aggregated from social media posts from players, teams, media, fans, the NBA and relevant hashtags and mentions.” Even if you’re not into hoops, this is pretty cool data.
