  • Albertson, Cunningham Out for Detroit - Supercross
Detroit, MI DetroitMonster Energy AMA Supercross Championship

Motorcycle Superstore Suzuki’s Jimmy Albertson and Kyle Cunningham will both miss Round 11 of Monster Energy Supercross in Detroit on Saturday due to injuries sustained in Toronto last weekend, the team announced.

Cunningham crashed in the second 450SX practice and jammed his fist. He qualified and attempted to race the main event, but was forced to pull off after eight laps. “Forty-five minutes before the night show I wasn't sure about racing, but thought I would give it a try,” he said in a team statement. “After eight laps I had to pull off as I was struggling to hang onto the bike.”

Cunningham had X-rays this week, which showed no breaks. He will take this weekend off and return to the 250SX West Region when the series resumes in Santa Clara on April 2.

As we reported earlier this week, Jimmy Albertson sustained a broken sternum in practice but still raced the main event and finished seventeenth. “I wanted to pull of every lap I came around but knew that every point counts, he said. “Taking a couple of weeks off will give me an opportunity to heal up ready for Indianapolis SX. It disappoints me that our team is not going to make the race in Detroit. However I feel it is the best decision based on the health of our riders at this point. We look forward to seeing our fans in Detroit next season!"

Crew chief Gregg Albertson added: "This weekend was tough on our boys. Big crashes by both Jimmy and Kyle in the qualifying practices turned the racing into a case of survival. On a positive note, the fans were awesome! It was great to be back in Canada for Supercross. Huge thanks to Nate and the rest of Feld for being so helpful with getting all the race trucks over the border safely."
