R.I.P. Laurie Olcott
Clinton, Conn. - Laurel Anne “Laurie” Olcott (nee Smith), VP of Stimilon International, a motocross event company she ran with her husband, David, passed away peacefully at her home on February12th with David at her side. She was 46, and had valiantly fought breast cancer for five years. The two had been married for 18 years and have two daughters, Annalyse and Kailina.
Laurie Olcott was July 11, 1968, in New Haven, Conn. and was a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology where she focused on Graphic Design. Sharing her husband’s passion for motocross and snowboarding led to their founding of Stimilon where the two created, organized and ran first snowboard, and later motocross, events from their base in Clinton, Conn. She was also very devoted to her horse, Beetle, and had taught both her daughters to ride.
“Laurie had been involved with all Stimilon events since we met in 1994,” said David Olcott, a motorcycle and snowboard industry veteran and former sales representative for several national motocross publications. “She was the VP of Operations and the brains behind a smoother registration process, more efficient scoring, and a fair and balanced awards and raffle presentation. She loved the riders and worked tirelessly to ensure they got more value out of the Stimilon Experience than they paid for.
“But she was also the shining light of the company - the smiling face that greeted the riders at the registration lines as well as the friendly hello after the race handing out awards. Her smile could just light up any room she entered.”
A fund has been established to help the Olcott daughters. The link is: http://www.gofundme.com/mmeshw
