The streak has been snapped. Ryan Villopoto’s five moto win streak to begin the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship has ended at the Tennessee National.
Villopoto was in good position early to extend his win streak to six as he rounded the first turn with Justin Barcia and Ryan Dungey. But a crash on the first lap sent Villopoto reeling. The battle for the overall was down to Barcia and Dungey, with Dungey needing the moto win after a third in moto one. Dungey played the role of chaser for most of the moto before finally striking. He quickly opened up over a seven second gap after taking the lead en route to his first moto win of the season.
The overall was seemingly out of reach, but RV dug deep and powered his way into third late in the race. But another mistake sent him back to fifth, ending any chance for the overall. It seemed as if RV was out of gas, but found a little left in the tank to track Alessi down for fourth and push Canard to the final corner for third.
Stewart came home in fifth, followed by Kevin Strijbos, Jake Weimer, Clement Desalle and Andrew Short
