For the first time in this year, Justin Bogle shared an early lead alongside Marvin Musquin as the two led through the first few turns of 250 moto one of the Tennessee National at Muddy Creek. They had quick company, though, as Zach Osborne and Cooper Webb were chomping at the bit. Osborne made the pass on both his GEICO Honda teammate and the Red Bull KTM rider for the lead after those first few turns. Webb followed by example and worked his past all three to become one of four riders to lead in the first lap. Bogle unfortunately crashed three quarters of the way through the first lap on the other side of one of the far hills.
Webb led for a few laps, but Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen took the lead from him aftering working through some early traffic. Baggett, too, worked through traffic early in the moto to rise up to third behind Musquin. Webb, Osborne and Anderson were all part of the traffic Baggett had to work his way through. The three riders were on pace, but mistakes caused them to fall back before regaining composure. Eli Tomac had the worst start between the top-tier riders and finally worked his way up fourth after an intense battle with Webb during the last couple laps in the moto.
Roczen had stretched his lead over Red Bull KTM teammate Marvin Musquin, and Musquin had quite the gap between himself and Baggett for the podium positions. Tomac and Webb rounded out the top five after their close battle.
