BTO Sports KTM Race Report

San Diego, CA –Round 6 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series stormed it’s way in to Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego this past Saturday for a fast and furious night of racing. The BTO Sports – KTM team riders Matt Goerke and Les Smith came prepared and ready to battle competition this weekend.

Feeling strong, Matt Goerke attacked the fast San Diego track to qualify in the 12^th spot. As the gate dropped in the 450SX heat race, Matt would run within the top five before a red flag would stop the race for a downed rider. After the single file re-start, Matt would finish the heat in 6^th and a spot in the main event. With Smith goggles providing a clear view, Matt would focus his sights on the front in the main, charging from 9^th to 7^th early on. A mid-race mishap with rider Matt Lemoine would stop his charge to the front for the BTO Sports – KTM rider. He would recover and finish the night in 12^th place. Heading into Arlington this weekend, Matt is 11^th in points.

Les Smith came in to San Diego poised to turn things around. He would qualify his BTO Sports – KTM ride in the 26^th position. In the 450SX heat race, Les would grab another great start, but a few mistakes dropped him down to 14^th. In the LCQ, Les would get stuck mid pack at the start, but would charge up to the front. He would finish 3^rd, just missing out on a spot in the main. As the series moves back east and more familiar ground, look for Les to make the mains from here on out.

“I’m pumped with how I rode tonight” said Matt Goerke. “I felt strong and feel this is the best I have ridden all year, even with the mishaps. We have the speed and everyone on the team has been working hard.”
