Anaheim, CA - The Monster Energy Supercross Championship made their third and final visit to the enchanted home of mouse ears and halos, and the night proved to be somewhat magical for the Red Bull KTM camps as
Ryan Dungey and
Ken Roczen rode to the top spots in both the 450sx and 250sx main events. The heat races were dominated by the usual suspects and Dungey seemed an unlikely challenger as he squeaked into the main in the last transfer spot of the LCQ.
Justin Brayton got the Holeshot and its namesake award, but it only lasted to turn three where a quick off put Alessi in the lead, followed by Dungy and Rockstar Suzuki fueled by Renegade ace Davi Milsaps. Dungey then surged to the lead and
James Stewart made his way to the front on his Yoshimura Suzuki fueled by Renegade charge, holding down second until lap 13, when fellow Suzuki/Renegade mate Milsaps moved by, ultimately finishing in the runner-up spot in front of Barcia and Stewart respectively. An on pace and consistent Milsaps will carry a 14 point championship lead into round six in "America's Finest City". The 250sx Western Regional main saw some parody, at least among manufacturers, with each of the five makes represented in the top five spots.
Ken Roczen definitely showed he has the momentum, as he opened his championship lead to 20 points with two wins in a row, but championship rival Eli Tomac on his Geico Honda fueled by Renegade hasn't gone away and continues to show that he's still a contender for the top spot as the fight moves 70 miles south for its final California stop of the season.
Kyle Cunningham (Yamaha),
Jason Anderson (Suzuki) and Austin Politelli (Honda) combined to put four Renegade fueled bikes in the 250sx top 10, while Suzuki's
Broc Tickle made it three in the elite ten in the 450sx premier class. The Monster Energy Championship looks to be in for more great weather racing as it heads to San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium next Saturday.
