  • SCOTT Athletes: Phoenix Report

There was no shortage of action at the second round of Supercross in Phoenix, AZ. On a colder than usual Saturday, SCOTT athletes geared up for what was to be an epic night of racing.

450 SX Class

After making his mark at the first round of SX, SCOTT goggle athlete Trey Canard was looking to add another podium to his resume in Phoenix. In the second 450SX heat race Canard rode strong and came away with a second place finish, qualifying him well for the main event. In the main Canard got another great start and ran with the lead group the entire race. With a few laps to go Trey made a pass for second and set his sights on the leader. Unfortunately on the last lap while holding off pressure from 3rd place rider Ryan Villapoto, Trey crashed after making a small mistake in a rhythm section. Trey remounted and was able to cross the finish in 5th, earning him enough points to hold onto 3rd overall in the point standings.

Also riding in the second 450SX heat race was SCOTT goggle athlete Andrew Short. Shorty qualified with a 5th, advancing to the main event. In the main event Short had a bad jump off the gate and had to battle the entire race to get into the top 10. Andrew was able to cross the finish line in 9th overall and now sits 8th overall in points.

SCOTT athlete and Jab Motorsports rider Matt Lemoine had another solid yet quiet night in Phoenix. Matt qualified for the main event after finishing 9th in the first 450SX heat race. Lemoine had a decent start but made a few small mistakes which allowed a few riders to get by him. Matt rode smart and consistent to finish 16th overall and now sits 17th in the point standings.

250 SX class

SCOTT goggle athlete Martin Davalos had a difficult night in Phoenix beginning with a spectacular crash in the second 250SX heat race which relegated him to the Last Chance Qualifier. Martin was able to shake off the crash and win the LCQ, qualifying him for the main event. In the 250 main event Davalos got a great start and found himself leading the race early on. Obviously feeling the effects of his heat race crash, Davalos was passed by Tomac and Roczen but held on strong to finish 3rd overall. Davalos earned his podium the hard way and now sits 9th in the 250SX West point standings, even after suffering a DNF at round one at Anaheim 1.

SCOTT goggle athlete and Pro Circuit teammate to Davalos, Tyla Rattray stamped his ticket to the 250 main event with a 5th place finish in the 2nd 250SX heat race. in the main Rattray earned a top ten start, but tangled with another rider and ended up in the back of the pack. After the incident, Rattray worked his way back through the pack and finished 12th. He is currently 7th in 250SX West point standings.

After drawing 50,000 fans in Phoenix, Monster Energy Supercross next heads to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, for round three. See you next weekend!
