BTO Sports KTM Race Report

Phoenix, AZ – The cold air of the desert did not stop the BTO Sports - KTM team as they headed to Phoenix, AZ for Round 2 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship Series at Chase Field Saturday night. Team riders Matt Goerke and Les Smith would come in to Phoenix prepared to do battle.

Matt Goerke came in to Phoenix prepared, and qualified his BTO Sports – KTM bike in the 16 th position. As the gate dropped for heat 1, Matt would get a great start, battling with Chad Reed most of the race. He would finish a solid 5 th place and advance to the main event with the 10 th fastest combined time. Matt would struggle in the main, however, as an aggressive move by Weston Peick sent Matt out of control and off the track early in the race. He would return to the track, but never recovered as he finished 17 th on the night.

Les Smith is improving every week on the BTO Sports – KTM race bike. He qualified 22 nd , and would ride strong in his heat race, missing the main by 2 spots. In the LCQ, Les would ride aggressive, battling as high as 4 th until a high-side on the last lap. While he did not make the main, Les is improving every week and riding more confidently.

“I was very pleased to see both riders improve here in Phoenix” team manager Forrest Butler said.

“They rode better in practice and Matt’s heat race was really good. But our main event results were terrible tonight, and that is not what we are here to accomplish this year. It’s homework time this week and time to lay it down for A2.”
