Southwick Statistical Report
Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing
Series Statistical Report Moto-X 338 National
Moto-X 338 - Southwick, Mass. - August 11
- Southwick serves as the only sand track in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
- The legendary facility has hosted a Lucas Oil Motocross event since the 1976 season. This year marks the 40th anniversary of operation for the track.
- The layout of Moto-X 338 is unique in that it allows for great viewing lines from nearly any portion of the track, thanks to its intimate configuration that features several out-and-back sections.
- Veteran rider and local legend John Dowd made history at Southwick in 2009 by becoming the oldest rider in history to finish on the podium. This weekend, he will continue his illustrious career, looking to break the record he already owns as the oldest rider to ever qualify for a motocross national. This year, Dowd will celebrate his 47th birthday during the Moto-X 338 National, on Friday, August 10.
- Dowd also holds the distinction of first winning at Moto-X 338 in the 450 Class during the 1997 season, then winning in the 250 Class one year later.
- Five different riders have secured the overall win in the 450 Class over the past five seasons at Southwick, while Tyla Rattray became the first 250 Class rider to repeat since Travis Pastrana in 2001.
- A total of six international competitors have won at Moto-X 338 - four in the 250 Class and just two in the 450 Class. Last season, foreign-born riders swept the overalls for the first time, with Australia's Brett Metcalfe (450 Class) and South Africa's Tyla Rattray (250 Class).
- In a combined 62 total races across the 450 and 250 Classes at Moto-X 338, 36 different riders have stood atop the podium.
- Ryan Dungey is enjoying a six-round overall winning streak, winning 11 of the last 12 motos.
- For the first time this season at Washougal, a 450 Class victory was decided without the winner sweeping both motos.
- Dungey has won 35 of the 64 motos he's entered in his 450 Class career (54%), claiming the overall in 20 of 32 races (62%). He already sits alone in fourth on the all-time wins list.
- Comparatively, through his first 32 career 450 Class races, Ricky Carmichael captured 24 overall victories.
- Carmichael also earned 1,425 career points through the first 32 races of his 450 Class career, while Dungey has amassed 1,440 over that same span.
- Dungey is the only rider in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship to finish on the podium in every moto. His worst result was third in the first moto of the season.
- Mike Alessi has finished on the overall podium in six of the first eight races and currently sits second on the championship as a privateer. He also captured his first moto win since Hangtown in 2010 at Washougal, signifying the inaugural victory for MotoConcepts.
- Blake Baggett and Eli Tomac have the most wins in the 250 Class with three apiece. However, they sit third and fourth in laps led, respectively. Justin Barcia has led the most laps, with two overall wins.
- Since Washougal in 2009, all overall victories in the 250 Class have been won by either Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki or GEICO Honda, creating the sport's most prominent team rivalry. Kawasaki has prevailed 24 times, compared to Honda's 12 victories.
- Pro Circuit has produced five different winners in that span, compared to three for Factory Connection.
- Jake Weimer leads all competitors in passing an average of 5.2 riders a moto. Eli Tomac is close behind, leading the 250 Class with 5.1 passes per moto.
