Barcia to Race Monster Energy Cup
AURORA, Ill. – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that two-time Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Class Champion Justin Barcia, of Ochlocknee, Ga, will race the second annual Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 20.
Barcia will be racing the Monster Energy Cup for the first time under the Team Honda Muscle Milk stable aboard the CRF450cc motorcycle. This will be the first opportunity for fans to witness Barcia under the direction his new team and bike.
“Though I didn’t get to race the Monster Energy Cup last year, it certainly looked like an awesome race - I wish I could have competed in it,” said Barcia. “The track setup was well thought out and produced a nice end result.”
Barcia has been competing in the Supercross Lites Class for the past three seasons and has 10-career Main Event wins. Throughout the 2012 season, Barcia successfully defended his Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Class title and rode to a near-perfect season earning six wins and an additional two podium finishes.
"The $1 million could be life changing for a rider, but I’m more focused on just going out there and racing to the best of my abilities,” said Barcia. “I mean, it’s certainly a nice prize, but you just can’t go out there focusing on that, because you’ll make mistakes and divert your attention from the main goal of racing solid and being at the top spot. I feel that the three 10-lap main event format was the perfect length. It’s always a good experience to get on the gate three times, because you get the opportunity to capitalize and learn from your earlier performance. I don’t think anything should be changed. A race like this certainly brings out the true talent of a rider. You really need to lay it on the line to contend against the others.”The 2012 Monster Energy Cup features an all-new track design inspired by five-time Supercross Class Champion Ricky Carmichael. The Carmichael-inspired track design will consist of supercross and motocross obstacles unlike any other racetrack design in the world. More than 200’ of the track will be built into the grandstands, and the riders exit the stadium and race through the Monster Energy Fan Zone outside of the stadium and through the pit area before they catapult back into the stadium. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and any rider that wins all three Main Events will take home $1 million.
Tickets for the 2012 Monster Energy Cup can be purchased at the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office, UNLVtickets outlets, online at www.UNLVtickets.com, www.MonsterEnergyCup.com, or by phone at (702) 739-FANS. Tickets will be available at the Sam Boyd Stadium Box Office on the day of the event only.
