Bel-Ray Racing Weekend Wrap-Up
The Monster Energy Supercross series continued on Saturday night at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Bel-Ray teams were in action in both the Lites and Supercross classes, ready to compete for the victory.
The Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing team has shown flashes of brilliance this season in between disappointment and frustration due to injuries. After getting clearance from his doctors to ride again, Ivan Tedesco had just days to prepare for his return to racing. He was in a position to make the main event from his heat race, when he stalled his bike in a technical section of the track. Unable to restart quickly, he was forced to enter the last chance qualifier. The LCQ wasn’t much better for Tedesco, as he missed a qualifying position and did not make the main event. Teammate Kyle Regal qualified directly to the main event and raced to a 17th place finish.
Bel-Ray backed Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki racer Blake Wharton has been the picture of contingency this season with top 5 finishes at each of the previous rounds. Unfortunately, New Orleans was not as kind to the likeable Texan. Despite a 2nd place finish in his heat race, Wharton struggled in the main event. After getting a last place start, Wharton sliced through the field and was able to work his way to a 14th place finish at the checkered flag. Teammate Hunter Hewitt returned to action after a recent injury. He missed directly qualifying out of the heat race and could only manage a 4th place finish in the LCQ, thus missing the main event.
The Supercross series continues this Saturday in Seattle, Washington.
