CORONA, Calif., (March 19, 2012) – Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis played host to Monster Energy Supercross this past Saturday, and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Darryn Durham, Blake Baggett, and Broc Tickle were on hand to contribute to a historical night of racing.
Durham had one of the best nights of his career on Saturday night. He ripped a holeshot in the first Supercross Lites East Heat Race, and the Pennsylvania native continued to deliver as the laps rolled on. He held strong and finished first at the checkered flag.
The Supercross Lites East Main proved to be one of the most interesting races in the history of Monster Energy Supercross. Racing was well underway by the fifth lap, until a crash caused the red flag to come out and forced a restart. Not only were we witness to a red flag and a restart but, for the first time ever, the race was restarted in a single-file staggered line. AMA rules are particular when it comes to restarting a race after three laps, and the riders were forced into a single-file line according to the position they were in when the race was red-flagged.
Things got going again after the restart, and Durham was back in action. He quickly made passes and put himself in the third-place position. He moved into the second spot after a mistake from the race leader, and held strong for the remainder of the race. He finished in the runner-up spot, earning the third podium of his career.
Baggett finished just off the podium in fourth, and is looking to get back on the box this Saturday in Toronto. His top-five finish bumped him up to fourth overall in the Supercross Lites East point standings.
Tickle had another top-ten night in the Supercross Class at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday. He put on a hard charge after a mid-pack start, and fought his way up to eighth by the time the checkered flag waved. He now sits 11th overall in the Supercross Class point standings.
The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki boys now make their way across the border to Canada for the next round of Monster Energy Supercross, which will be held at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario this Saturday, March 24. Durham sits in second overall in the Supercross Lites East Region, with 98 points. Teammate, Baggett, moves up to fourth overall, with 80 points. Tickle jumps from 13th to 11th overall in the Supercross Class, with 95 points.
