Barcia and Pro Taper Four-for-Four
March 13, 2012, 11:10am
Corona, CA – Round four of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross East Coast Series is in the books and Pro Taper’s Justin Barcia once again dominated the field. This week’s win, Barcia’s fourth in a row, came at a soggy Daytona International Speedway. Kevin Windham also turned in a season best third place in the Supercross class.
Fresh off of convincing wins in Dallas, Atlanta and St. Louis the defending East Coast Lites Champion did not let mother nature put a stop on his reign. In the only afternoon qualifying session Barcia took pole position aboard his Geico Honda. Justin used his number one gate pick to take the holeshot and decimate the field in his heat race. No stranger to success in extreme conditions, Kevin Windham notched the second fastest qualifying time in the 450cc class. Kevin also logged a substantial victory in his heat race, besting the field by nearly 25 seconds.
In the Lites main event, Pro Taper’s Barcia grabbed the holeshot and despite some pressure late in the race, never relinquished the lead. Justin led all 12 laps of the rain-shortened race in route to his fourth win in a row. He now sits 24 points ahead of the field and seems to be in total control of his quest to defend the number one plate. MotoConcepts Racing/Pro Taper backed rider Jake Canada turned in another solid result this week. The California native continues to impress and prove that his he is a legitimate competitor for top five finishes every race. Kyle Cunningham, Malcolm Stewart and Tommy Weeck all put their Pro Taper equipped bikes inside the top ten in Daytona as well.
It is no secret that Kevin Windham excels when the conditions get tough. When the rain started coming down, Kevin welcomed the challenge and fans began to flash back to his muddy 2008 win at the Daytona Speedway. When the gate dropped on the 16 lap main event Windham found himself inside the top three, but the track was deteriorating quickly. He made persistent efforts to make his move into second, but eventually had to settle for third place on the evening. Other notable top ten performances were put in by MotoConcepts’ Mike Alessi, BTO Sports/BBMX rider Matt Goerke, and Yoshimura Suzuki’s Brett Metcalfe.
The next round of the series will be held inside Indianapolis’ Lucas Oils Stadium this Saturday, March 17th. Be sure to tune in to Pro Taper’s social media sites for updates throughout the day at all of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross races.
