  • L&H Tour to Honor Jimmy Button at San Diego - Supercross
San Diego, CA San DiegoMonster Energy AMA Supercross Championship
Merced, CA: Jimmy Button, one of the most successful riders of Motocross, Supercross and champion for spinal research, will honored for his accomplishments this Saturday, February 11, 2012 during round six of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego California.

It was 1992 when Mr. Button won his first series of pro races at the Charlotte and Indianapolis rounds of the AMA 125 East Region Supercross Series. His early career saw him serge though the ranks with speed and prominence  A repeat of wins during 1994 saw Button winning the Daytona Florida, Irving Texas and Charlotte rounds of the AMA 125 East Region Supercross Series taking him to the next level of competition. The next year he finished 4th in the 125 World Motocross Championships. 1999 was the year of his overall win at the Washougal 250 MX National. With Jimmy Button’s career on track, the 2000 season was looking like his year for a championship.  Unfortunately, January 22, 2000 Button had a career ending spinal cord injury during a crash.  It would be an injury that ended his racing career, but open new doors for the champ.

After his accident, that same year in July, Jimmy Button assisted in the formation of the “Road 2 Recovery Foundation”, helping riders suffering from injuries like his.  He also helped form “Action Sports Management” to represent riders as an agent.  Being ever active and a champion for spinal research, Jimmy rode his bicycle 2475 miles from San Diego to Daytona Beach Florida to raise awareness for spinal cord research in 2011.  This same year, he was presented the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, “Road 2 Recovery Main Jet Award”.

Jeremy McGrath states “Congratulations to Jimmy on receiving the Legends & Heroes award. He is a legend and to many of us a hero, a great guy and a phenomenal athlete. Great job my friend!

Steve Astephen from Wassweman agrees “Jimmy has been an amazing addition to Wasserman. His experience in his career allowed him to share valuable advice to his clients”.

Tom White of the Early Years of Motocross Museum shares “Jimmy Button teamed with Jeremy McGrath on the powerful Chaparral Motorsports team and was always a force to be reckoned with!  What defines Jimmy to me is how he dealt with the career ending injury!  Instead of focusing on his loss, he has spent his time and energy to help other riders with significant injuries find their way and show them strength in the face of adversity!  “Road 2 Recovery” is a wonderful organization and should be supported by all of us!”

“So good to see Jimmy Button receive this award.  What is so cool about being a part of this is that I was there at Charlotte when Jimmy won that first one and I have the video I took as well. I had been watching Jimmy move forward from that time on, watching him win races. Then when he got on the McGrath team, I saw him start to show some real potential. What I saw was the few things that may have been missing were coming together. As he started to look more and more like McGrath in the little things he would do on the track (that wasn't a bad thing either). This next part hit home again as I was at the race when Jimmy crashed and as he was lying on the ground.  All I could hope for is that he would get up and be fine.  Well, the get up part did not happen, so now it was hope for the best.  After a crash like that, it is so good to see Jimmy doing all the things he is doing to help and to motivate others. The guys like Jimmy and my son, David, are the REAL CHAMPIONS. The ones that fall down and come back fighting and never give up. Jimmy Button is a real champion and I am so happy to be a part of this presentation to an awesome rider and all around nice guy.” Gary “The Professor” Bailey remembers.

“Every champ has a legend and that’s what makes them our heroes. In Jimmy’s case it’s what he was able to achieve after his racing career that has made him a hero too many. The “Road to Recovery” organization is out there helping those in need and we are honored to recognize Jimmy Button as our Legend & Hero for San Diego” states Alex Moroz and Mike Owens of the Legends and Heroes Tour.

Jimmy is currently the Executive Director of Motorsports at Wasserman Media Group and helps some of the world’s best motorsports athletes.  On stage presenting the award to Mr. Button will be multi time National AMA SX and MX champ Jeremy McGrath.

Mr. Button will be at the Legends & Heroes Tour Moto 2 Museum exhibition at the
QUALCOMM Stadium in San Diego this Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 3:00pm for a “Meet & Greet” with the fans.
