MOTOCONCEPTS-ALESSI MISSION HAS LIFT OFF AT BERCY
Temecula, CA. MotoConcepts Racing and the Team Alessi program had a fine debut at the famous three-day SX that took place at le Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy, France.
With Mike Alessi’s motors arriving only one day before the event started, time was in short supply. However, as those who know Mike Alessi, Tony Alessi, Mike Alessi’s Program Director, and Mike Genova, the MotoConcepts Team Owner and Manager, failure was NEVER an option. The team gave it a 100% all weekend long and ended up 4th place overall.
Friday, the first night of racing, started slowly for Mike Alessi. Race bike set-up and testing was close to non-existent. Adding to the challenges, Mike had a bit of Bercy SX jitters, having not been on such a tight SX track requiring an aggressive riding style in quite awhile. He qualified 18th, which was his low point for the weekend. He resolved to himself and the team to consistently improve throughout the weekend, a commitment he more than met. In his heat race, he better qualified 7th. After more tuning of both his bike and mind, he improved to 3rd place in the elimination round. After a very good start, Mike found himself in second place most of the race, eventually finishing a respectable 4th place.
Between the first and second nights of racing, many changes were made to the suspension and gearing, which resulted in a slew of great starts in Saturday. More often than not, it was Mike Alessi, who many say is the greatest starter in the history of the sport, in front after the second turn. He was 4th place in his semi, 2nd place in the Superpole race, and the fastest American for the night overall. Mike received a hard-earned bonus for his stellar performance in his Superpole race.
In the Americana series of three elimination races, Mike finished a very commendable respectable 1st,, 1st, 4th on the night. In the main, Mike holeshot the race and led for several laps, before being derailed by an aggressive maneuver by eventual winner Kyle Chisholm. After the mishap, Mike finished 7th on the night.
The final day of racing saw Mike make a few small mistakes in the races leading up to the final but settled in and finished 4th place for the evening, leading to a 4th place overall for the entire event of Bercy.
It was a solid effort by all involved and provided a foundation to build towards the approaching 2012 SX/MX season.
