  • Bel-Ray Race Report – Las Vegas SX Report
Saturday night in Las Vegas, the 2011 Monster Energy Supercross season drew to a close. In what has been described as the greatest season ever, four racers went into the night’s action with a mathematical chance at the title. TwoTwo Motorsports / Bel-Ray Racing’s Chad Reed was one of them. Sitting just 9 points out of a potential championship, Reed controlled his own destiny.

At the beginning of the season, there was much talk about Chad Reed and his chances. After a disappointing 2010 season, Reed was the underdog, looking to make a return to the pinnacle of motocross racing and re-launch his career and a privateer. Bel-Ray was also an underdog, looking to jump back into the sport with a true innovator. A partnership was formed and the story began.

After a slow start, Reed and his TwoTwo Motorsports team charged forward, as only a true champion could. The season had its ups and downs and Reed came into the finale in Las Vegas just 9 points behind of the leader. Reed would have to win Vegas and hope for a poor night from the points leader, Ryan Villopoto, in order to secure an overall season victory. Reed did what he had to do and won the biggest race of the year, in front of a sold-out crowd. Unfortunately for Reed, Villopoto did just what was necessary to win the title. As Reed took the final checkered flag of the season, Villopoto held onto third place and the title by just 4 points.  Reed also took home the Rock Hard Ride Hard award, capping off an incredible night of racing. At the season ending awards ceremony on Sunday night, TwoTwo Motorsports won Team of the Year and manager, Dave Osterman, won Manger of the Year awards, respectively. Essentially, TwoTwo Motorsports won everything but the champoinship title, leaving an incredible mark on one of the greatest seasons in Supercross history!

In the best ride of his Supercross career, Dodge Motorsports / Hart & Huntington Racing’s Chris Blose finished fourth in the evenings main event. After getting a top 10 start, Blose rode a consistent 20 lap main event on a very difficult and slippery track. Working his way through the pack, Blose rewarded the team for their hard work all season long with his excellent finish.

Bel-Ray’s Chief Operating Officer expressed the feelings of many, “We couldn’t be more proud to have aligned to Chad Reed and the entire TwoTwo Motorsports family.  Chad took an incredible risk this year when he created his own team.  His actions demonstrate a strong commitment to racing and he has shown incredible integrity and heart.  Bel-Ray couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome of the season and congratulates both the Hart & Huntington and TwoTwo Motorsports teams on giving us a great show this year.”

In the final point standings, Bel-Ray had 3 riders in the top 15. Blose was 13th, teammate Ivan Tedesco was 11th and Reed was 2nd.
