Just one week after the final AMA Arenacross round in Des Moines, Iowa Tyler Bowers was ready to make the trek to Seattle to compete in his first Supercross in over two years. Aboard his Babbitt’s Monster Energy TiLUBE Kawasaki KX450F, the new 2011 AMA Arenacross was eager to make his mark in the bigger venues of AMA Supercross.
Easily qualifying into the main event courtesy of his seventh place finish in heat race number two, Tyler was looking forward to what the night’s outcome would bring; saying “I got into a decent qualifying position, and then I just settled in to get into the main event. The track was very challenging, but I felt really good out there.”
When the main event took off Tyler Bowers and his Babbitt’s KX450F would start inside the top ten. Unfortunately just as he was moving up through the pack on that initial lap, several other riders crashed into him. “I was making a move on Chris Blose for eighth place when Ryan Dungey stalled in a turn and fell over on both of us” said Bowers. With Tyler’s front brake lever broken off, he would have a difficult time making his way through the pack; not to mention the deeply rutted track. “It was very difficult to race on that rutted of a track with no front brake, so I just tried to brush the cobwebs off, and make it through the night” added Tyler. Eventually Tyler would finish his night in 17th, but say “It was good to now have this first Supercross behind me and I look forward to Salt Lake City!”
Adding some final thoughts on Tyler’s 2011 Supercross debut, Babbitt’s Monster Energy TiLUBE Kawasaki Team Manager Denny Bartz would say “All in all it was a good weekend. Certainly breaking his front brake lever in the crash on the very first lap wasn’t good, but still Tyler rode well and never gave up.”
