  • Marmont Eyes First Overall Pro Open at Raymond Terrace
Former national Pro Lites champion Ryan Marmont is on the verge of capturing his maiden premier class overall victory as he and the JDR Motorex KTM team head to Raymond Terrace, NSW, this weekend for round three of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals.

Marmont, 26, has proven a revelation in the Pro Open ranks during the early stages of 2011, taking out his first moto win at just his second outing in the category at Appin last weekend.

With his confidence at an all-time high and further development going into the world championship-winning KTM 350 SX-F this week, Marmont isn’t ruling out victory come Sunday at Barleigh Ranch.

“Appin was the first race where I could judge the other riders on track because round one was a bit hard to do that in the mud,” Wollongong’s Marmont said. “We feel like we’re in a good position where we could contend for the championship and also race wins – I’d love to get a round win.

“The 350 really suited the conditions at Appin and with me being a smaller guy coming from the Lites bike, it’s great that there’s the option to ride the 350cc opposed to a 450. The bike’s really suited for myself and I’m having a lot of fun riding it.”

Also expected to strike this weekend is Marmont’s Pro Open teammate Dan Reardon, the 2007 series champion looking to rebound from bad luck in the opening rounds and show his true potential this weekend.

Marmont currently sits fourth in the series, while Reardon is 12th after two of nine rounds contested to date.

JDR Motorex KTM newcomer Matt Moss has dominated the first two rounds of the 250cc Pro Lites division, the 2009 champion quickly finding comfort aboard the new fuel injected 250 SX-F and leading the title by a mammoth 47 points.

“I’ve got a 47-point lead in the series and I feel really comfortable with the KTM already,” 22-year-old Moss said. “I just need to eliminate the mistakes and I think I can keep stretching my lead – it’s all about plugging away so I can get back to the U.S. next year.”

Rookie and reigning Under 19s champion Josh Cachia, 19, is third in the standings after finishing seventh at Appin, while gifted Queenslander Brenden Harrison is sixth after experiencing a troublesome second round.

Round three of the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will take place at Raymond Terrace in NSW this weekend on Sunday, 10 April.
