CORONA, Calif. - Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson made his second visit to the top of the podium this season with an impressive win north of the border at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. The victory helped propel him into second in the championship standings with three rounds remaining. Teammate Blake Baggett came through the pack after a rough start to finish sixth.
The fans of his former home were on their feet as Wilson worked his way through the pack during the 15-lap main event. Starting fourth, Wilson showed patience as he closed the gap on the leader and eventually taking over the top spot on Lap 8. He rode smart during the final laps to capture his second win of the season.
“I am so happy to be able to win in Canada,” said Wilson. “I love the people here and I could hear them as I went in for the pass. It finally feels like I’m back and riding to my potential. I really want to finish out the season strong.”
Showing his perseverance, Baggett made his way from 14th on the first lap to finish sixth. On the start Baggett was pushed into the tuff blocks and was outside top-15, but he didn’t let that stop him from making a charge for the front.
“It was a tough track tonight and getting a bad start didn’t help,” said Baggett. “I did the best I could to try and make as few mistakes as possible. During the week, I’ll be practicing my starts because when I had those dialed, I was up battling for the lead. I want to put out my best every week and I still have three rounds of racing to prove that.”
With three races left for the East Coast riders, the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team heads to Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas for Round 7 of the AMA Supercross Lites, Eastern Region series. Wilson currently sits in second in the championship standings with 122 points, while teammate Baggett is fourth with 100 points.
