Cole Seely Scores Top Ten in Toronto
March 28, 2011, 3:55pm
Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda rider Cole Seely continues to gain experience and confidence as a fill-in rider for the injured Josh Grant. Riding a Factory Honda CRF 450, Seely has been qualifying well and impressing many as he makes his debut in the premier 450 class. In Toronto, Seely remained solid and consistent by turning in a steady tenth place finish.
The weekend started with good qualifying times, once again. Cole was quick early on and showed that he is capable of posting fast laps. His downfall has been his starts as he gets used to the additional power of the 450 and his heat race start was average once again. Cole pushed forward and easily qualified for the main event.
In the final, Cole was really hoping to work his way towards the top five. He knew it would take a good start but it just didn't happen. Seely found himself starting from the back of the pack once again but continued to push for all twenty laps. With two laps to go Cole was in ninth position. He lost one spot to Ryan Villopoto on the last lap and crossed the stripe in tenth.
"I feel pretty good about the way I rode tonight," said Seely. Adding, "The starts are really what are keeping me from getting up towards the front more. These guys are all fast and you can't expect to catch them from the back. I have one more shot on the 450 next weekend in Dallas so hopefully I can make some improvements on my starts this week."
Seely will race the 450 once again in Dallas before climbing back on his Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda CRF250R and starting some outdoor testing. Then it's back to the supercross track to prep for the upcoming rounds in Seattle, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
