Freestone County Raceway to Host Amateur Spring Championships

  • Freestone County Raceway to Host Amateur Spring Championships
Wortham, Texas – Every year for the last 14 years, riders from coast-to-coast have had the opportunity to attend two amateur national level events in Texas. With the closure of Lake Whitney MX Park, Freestone County Raceway has stepped up to keep that Spring Break tradition alive. From March 7-12, 2011, riders from around the country will converge onto the Lone Star state once again.

The announcement of the Spring Championship at Freestone was no surprise.  Owner and operator, Tony Miller stepped onto the national scene in 1996 as a team owner in roadracing and in 1997, Team Miller Racing had won his first AMA title with California's Eric Bostrom. In 2000, Freestone County Raceway built its first motocross track. By 2006, Freestone was promoting the largest amateur series in the state (Texas Winter Series) and the following year saw Freestone enter the AMA Motocross series.
Now entering his second decade in motocross, Tony Miller and his staff have made the commitment by investing in the Inaugural AMA Freestone Spring Championship.

"We have all that is necessary to keep the tradition of the Texas Two-Step going," said Miller. "Since investing and hosting the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship for our Texas fans to enjoy, it seemed natural to offer an amateur national level event on the same track.  We have the infrastructure to support the industry, riders and their families."
And so Freestone does.  Freestone Pro pits are the largest of all Outdoor Nationals.  Additionally, the pits are rocked for great parking.  The track is a mix of sand and clay and is favored by most Pros.

Ben Townley is quoted as saying: "It’s one of the best facilities on the schedule."  Freestone's viewing allows spectators into the infield and the parameter of the track, bringing each and every corner up close.

The Spring Championship has also taken the step in gating riders first moto based on their lap times from practice. "What better way for riders to learn what it's like at the Pro level," said Tom Shields, Marketing Director for Freestone.  "Now amateur riders will get the experience and importance of a quote, 'flying lap.'  It's just another natural step for the riders to train themselves before they become Pros."  Shields went on the say: "Additionally, gate pick is too important at these races with a two moto format."
Pre-Registration is open now until Mon, Feb 28th at www.FreestoneMX.com. For more information cal 713-880-5533.
