Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing’s Chad Reed continues to dominate AMA Motocross as the two-time AMA Supercross Champion picked up another victory this past weekend. Reed won both 450 class motos to take the overall victory at Washougal Motocross Park in Washougal, Washington, on Saturday afternoon. With this victory, the Australian extended his lead in the overall championship points standings. Rockstar Makita Suzuki teammate Michael Byrne also had cause to celebrate. The Australian rider came back from a tough first moto and a 15th-place finish to capture a fourth-place finish in the second moto. The overall result was an impressive fifth-place finish. Byrne is currently in fifth place in the overall championship points standings. Finally, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Mike Alessi is still recovering from injury and did not race. Alessi hopes to return to racing as soon as possible.
In the 250 class, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey celebrated another victory at Washougal and is now tied for first place in the class’s overall championship points standings. On Saturday, Dungey won the first 30-minute moto and then finished fifth in the second moto. This combined result was good enough to give the Minnesota native the overall victory.
Chad Reed:
“It was a good day. It’s always a good day when you win and particularly to go one-one for both motos on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450. It was awesome and I’m very, very happy. I feel like I’m making progress with my riding, with my health, with my fitness. It’s all starting to click at the same time and that’s what’s important. I wanted to win, there was a lot of pressure and my pride was on the line, so it was good.”
Michael Byrne:
“I thought today was going to be really good, I had a great time in practice and I felt really comfortable on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450. But then I got caught up in a second-turn crash in the first moto and then I got caught up in another crash and went down again. I had to come from last twice in one moto. In the second moto, I tried to get a good start and be consistent. For a bad day, it turned out to be good for points so I can’t complain.”
Ryan Dungey:
“I think overall the day was good. We came out of here tied for the points lead, so we’re chipping away at it little by little. We won the first moto on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 but had a couple of falls in the second. I just tried to keep my head down, the track was really tough and I got together with another guy, but I’m glad to come out safe and healthy. Thanks to the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team because we had a lot of changes to make and they all turned out to be good. I have a lot of trust and faith in my team and their decision-making. At the end of the day we gained valuable points and we came away with the overall.”
Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing will race next at Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin, New York, on Saturday, August 15, 2009.
