  • Unbound Energy’s Canard Leads the GEICO Powersports/Honda Team
CARLSBAD, Calif. –  Trey Canard again led the Unbound Energy-backed GEICO Powersports/Honda team in MX action this past weekend, scoring his second-straight 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals series 250 class podium with a 2nd place finish at Texas’ Freestone Raceway on Saturday.

Canard, who podiumed in both motos (3rd/2nd), combined blistering starts with consistently fast lap times in the 2:11 range. He pulled the holeshot in the first moto and was leading when he tucked the front end in a soft section and quickly fell from 1st to outside the top ten. Canard then mounted a furious comeback to make the podium, passing his Unbound Energy-backed teammate Brett Metcalfe (GEICO Powersports/Honda) on the last lap for 3rd place.

“The GEICO Powersports/Honda team had my bike dialed perfectly, which allowed me to get past my early mistake and race back for a podium finish,” he said.

Canard then stole the holeshot from rookie racer Max Anstie in the second 250 class moto and led early. Passed by eventual Freestone race winner Ryan Dungey, Canard put up a great chase late in the race to catch Dungey, but wound up running off the track and dashing any hopes of an overall win.

Canard was joined in the top five by his Unbound Energy-backed teammates Blake Wharton (GEICO Powersports/Honda) in 4th and Metcalfe in 5th overall.

In the 450 class Unbound Energy-backed Dan Reardon (GEICO Powersports/Honda) continued to improve in the series’ premier class, placing 6th overall – highlighted by a near podium 4th place finish in the second moto.

Next up for Unbound Energy’s Barcia, Canard, Wharton, Metcalfe and Reardon is the fourth round of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals, the High Point Raceway MX National in Mt. Morris, Pa.
