Here I was walking along near one of the Honda vans and Dave Arnold called out for a helping hand. He asked me to hold down on the rear of Marty's bike while he pulled the forks off. Back then they raced Friday and Saturday nights in Houston and Marty was complaining about the front end. As it turned out, when Dave removed them the two forks were set up totally different from one another. He asked me not to say anything to anyone. I kept that promise for 30 years.
Man, I was holding Marty Smith's factory RC250. It was totally “bitchin.”
There are also photos of Gaylon Mosier breaking his leg in the 125/500 national at Rio Bravo back in 1979. He lost his life in a bicycling accident soon after and I believe he was in training after recovering from this accident.
All of the photos attached were taken with the same little 110 Kodak Instamatic.
