Action sports metropolis San Diego to host high-octane
NAVY Moto X World Championships April 12-13

March 27, 2008 - San Diego, CA - With miles of Pacific shoreline, spectacular mountain and desert vistas to the east, and always friendly Mexico a few minutes south, California's birthplace, San Diego, is one of the country's top tourist destinations. But for those lucky enough to live, work, and recreate here, especially those with extreme tendencies, San Diego has become the epicenter of the action sports universe.

From skateboarding to motorcycle racing to monster wave riding, you can count on the fact that someone from San Diego dropped in first, twisted it harder, or went bigger than anybody else. And the records prove it. It makes sense, though, San Diego weather is always 'awesome', most neighborhoods have skate parks, and the schools here suggest, no, demand, that every student own a wetsuit and surfboard. It's the law.

San Diego's extremists excel on the business side, too. Native sons Tony Hawk, Shaun "The Flying Tomato" White, surf gods Rob Machado and Brad Gerlach, and even NASCAR great Jimmy Johnson have each achieved fame and fortune while pursuing their extreme ambitions.

So it should come as no surprise to all San Diegan's that their fair city and beloved sports stadium will play host on April 12th and 13th to ESPN's inaugural NAVY Moto X World Championships, the octane fueled moto-rodeo that invites the world's top motorcycle professionals to test their otherworldly talents in Freestyle, SuperMoto, Speed & Style, Best Trick, Step Up, and Moto X racing. But the list of invitees is limited, so the pressure to be on it is a high priority amongst the fraternity of super competitive, super skilled, superheroes that includes local favorites to "Supercross King" Jeremy McGrath and Freestyle phenom Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg.

Up to 50,000-plus fans are expected to jam Qualcomm stadium on April 12th and 13th and among them will be a lifelong San Diegan and former motocross champ who spent years on the local and international circuit capturing many event wins and championship titles along the way.

"Perhaps more than anyone I'm looking forward to this event," said Del Mar resident Broc Glover, an AMA Hall of Fame member known back in the '70's and '80's as one of the best ever and dubbed in his heyday as "The Golden Boy". As a Team Yamaha pro Glover captured a good share of victories in front of Qualcomm stadium crowds. Even today as Dunlop Senior Manager he's as involved in racing as ever.

"I loved racing here at Qualcomm but I really enjoy my role on the business side now looking in instead of out there banging bars. The Moto X World Championships track layouts I've seen are going to be a fantastic for the racers and it'll be an incredible for live spectators as well as ESPN's TV audience. I'll be here taking it in with my family, my friends and my Dunlop tire crew," continued Glover. "Dunlop is supporting the Moto X World Championships in full force just as we have the X Games over the years. We enjoy events like this and for me personally, the fact that it's here at home makes it even sweeter!"

Tickets for the NAVY Moto X World Championships are $10, $20 and $25 with free pit access included in the $20 and $25 tickets. Military discounts are offered - $5 discount from a $25 ticket and $3 discount from a $20 ticket. The Moto X World Championship 24-hour Tailgate is available through ticketmaster.com as well. The two-day RV parking pass offers picnic tables, power, port-a-johns and a common area.
