MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Feb. 25, 2008) – MX Sports, producer of the Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., is pleased to report that the 2007 AMA Horizon award winner, Trey Canard, won his first AMA Supercross Lites main event over the weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. The Torco Racing Fuels/Factory Connection Honda rider said, “I’m fortunate. I’m blessed in many ways, and it’s not just me that did that; it was everyone behind me. There was a lot of hard work and dedication behind me. It’s a long series, and I want to concentrate on that.” Canard added, “Obviously, my dad passed away in ’03, and I’ve been riding since then, for five years, for him, and to carry the name. I’m so excited, and I hope it continues.”

Trey is the first rider in the history of the Horizon Award to win the A class at Loretta Lynn’s and follow it up by winning his first supercross. The recipient of this prestigious award is decided by the AMA and MX Sports and is awarded to the graduating rider that shows the most potential as he heads into the professional ranks.

MX Sports Director, Tim Cotter send his personal congratulations to Trey: “On behalf of the Loretta Lynn family, I would like to send heartfelt congratulations to Trey and his family. His accomplishment speaks volumes about the Loretta Lynn’s program and we could not be more proud of Trey Canard.”

The 2008 qualifying season will commence with the (52) Area Qualifiers, beginning February 22 and concluding May 18. Step two of the qualifying process will be the (12) Regional Championships which will run from May 24  through June 22. The 27th Annual Air Nautiques AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship will be held July 27 through August 3.

About the Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships
Produced by MX Sports, the Air Nautiques/AMA National Motocross Championships is the world’s largest amateur motocross race. Hosted annually since 1982 at the home of country music star Loretta Lynn in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., the event is the premier amateur motocross race in the world. In 2007, more than 25,000 entries attempted to qualify in 33 classes for the 1,386 available gates at the National. In 2008, the National event, christened “The World’s Greatest Motocross Vacation”, will be held July 27–Aug. 3. As proof of the significance of winning an AMA Amateur National Championship title, most of today’s top motocross and Supercross stars, including Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, and Ryan Villopoto, won championships at Loretta Lynn’s. Sponsors include Air Nautiques, Amsoil, Cobra, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, Yamaha, Gatorade, Parts Unlimited, Red Bull, Thor, Toyota, AGV, Alpinestars, Boyesen, Cti, DC Shoes, DeCal Works, FMF, Kicker, Moto Tees, Ogio, Renthal, Scott, Twin Air, Wiseco, and Racer X Illustrated.  For more information, please visit www.mxsports.com.
