  • Voss Leads Race For Privateer of the Year

January 27, 2008, Newbury Park, CA.  MDK/U.S. Airforce/Mastercraft/Wonder Warthog Racing (WWR) team captain, Heath Voss, rocketed into the point position for privateer of the year honors.  Heath finished 8th in miserable track conditions.

Rain, rain and more rain greeted the team in San Francisco, which made for a challenging pit setup and tear down.  The track held up surprising well given the copious amounts of rain but still tested the mud riding skills of the 12 riders in the DeCal Works Hog Haven Privateer Support Program.  The rider line up this week was Heath Voss, Ryan Abrigo, Vincent Blair, and Jiri Dostal in the premier class, with Daniel Blair, Charles Castloo, Matty Dowell, Tye Hames, Mike Horban, Brice Huffman, and Tiger Lacey riding Lites bikes.

8 riders worked their way through the afternoon qualifiers and into the night show, as MDK/WWR riders showed they viewed the track conditions as an opportunity, not an obstacle to success.

Said Heath Voss, “I feel I rode really well.  Whether I finished 1st, 8th, or last, I gave it my all and rode aggressively the entire main.  My start was terrible and I came back from close to last place.  I will use this as a building block to even better results.”

Bryan McDonald, WWR Team Riding Coach and Founder of Longshot Racing, stated, “It was a great weekend for the MDK/WWR team.  We achieved our best result ever with Heath’s gutsy performance.  I know this weekend was another seed that will sprout into success at a later date.  I believe our team motivational meetings have had a great positive effect on the riders.  We would also like to thank Mike Simon for providing our riders with PowerStart VictoryLap Performance Timers and funding the riding coach program.”

Special thanks to Mark Kvamme and the whole MDK team for providing the technology to move our riders towards the top and a big round of applause for the Interns provided by the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute.  Without these and other sponsors, our team would not be possible.
