The 35-mile daytime lap is followed by another 35-mile lap at night, with the course reversed, and only the daytime riders who finish within an hour of the first finisher advance to the night lap.
"You’ve got to look after your bike, and you need commitment to get to the finish," said Knight prior to the race. "You get to a point where you ask, 'What the heck am I doing here?' But there’s no feeling like when you get to the end of the race. You can’t think about the competition, just getting to the end. You need a bit of good luck also."
One hundred riders will start, but there will be only one Last Man Standing!
