If only Jason Lawrence could get a break…The Boost Mobile/Yamaha of Troy pilot set the fastest lap time in both practice (50.868) and in the main event (49.63) this past Saturday night, but an unfortunate mistake in the main cost him dearly as he was clearly the fastest rider on the track. Lawrence got another mediocre start and came around the first lap in ninth place, but on the third lap Lawrence passed five riders and went from eighth to third! He then stalled his bike, resulting in a 21st-place finish. But his lap time was less than a half-second slower than the fastest lap time of Chad Reed in the AMA Supercross class. Lawrence’s lap time was the third fastest of the night in both classes combined.

Biggest Surprise: DNA Energy/BTO Sports/BBMX’s Kyle Cunningham continues to improve and shows that he’s definitely top-10 material. He had the ninth-fastest time at Anaheim 2 and finished 11th.

Team San Manuel Yamaha’s Chad Reed recorded the fastest lap time in both the timed practice (49.374) and the main event, proving he’s in control for the championship. The second-fastest rider in the main was Factory Yamaha’s Josh Hill, who turned a 49.501. Kevin Windham was third fastest, improving from an eighth-place qualifying timing, followed by Mike Alessi. It’s interesting to note that Alessi qualified with only the 12th fastest time, but that may be due to his knee injury.
Biggest Surprise: Or should we say disappointment? Honda Red Bull riders Andrew Short and Ivan Tedesco logged the 9th and 10th fastest lap times of the main event, almost two full seconds off the pace of Reed. Tedesco and Short finished fifth and ninth.
