  • FIM Off-Road Awards 2006

Monaco (Monte-Carlo), 26th December 2006 – The successful 2006 season deserved a top celebration for the many Champions and all the people who worked for the success of Motocross and SuperMoto.

The famous Salle des Etoiles in Monaco hosted another successful event, after the 2005 edition of the FIM Off-Road Awards, celebrating Motocross and SuperMoto Champions with Monte Carlo by night as a scenery.

Among the over 300 guests there were “the stars”.

There were the natural stars on the sky, outside the Salle des Etoiles.

There were the artificial stars, on the roof of the Salle des Etoiles.

And finally there were the stars of Motocross and SuperMoto, stepping on the podium and receiving the Award they deserved, thanks to brilliant performances throughout the season.

Stars and more stars: this was the Salle des Etoiles during the 2006 FIM Off-Road Awards

The riders made the year special and unique, and so did the Federations and the organizers involved with FIM and Youthstream.

And also Motocross “winningest” rider Stefan Everts played an important role, winning his 10th World Title and his 101st Grand Prix, before putting an end to his career.

Special Awards were assigned to Bulgaria, winning the Best Organizer Award for the Motocross Grand Prix of Bulgaria; to Adrien Chareyre, winning the Marcel Seurat Award for the Supermoto young hopefuls; to Steve Dixon, winning the Best Crowd Award for the Motocross of Nations in Matterley Basin; to Ramon Marquez, winning the Best Developed Circuit and Infrastructure Award for the Grand Prix of Spain; to Ray Archer, winning the Best Photographer Award; to Brian Jorgensen, winning the Special Award for his career; to Lilia Imani, winning the Grand Prix Revelation Award for the Supermoto Grand Prix “Le Alpi del Mare”; to Danilo Boccadolce, winning the Best Co-operation of Motocross and Supermoto World Championships Award.

Stefan Everts was the most awarded rider of the night: he received one red plate with number 72 for life; a trophy for the 101 Grand Prix wins; a trophy for the Career achievement; a trophy for the 10 World Championship wins; a unique personalized mobile phone, given to Stefan by Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo; an Award as Honorary member of the Moto Club of Monaco; and last but not least, the Award for the win of the 2006 FIM Motocross World Championship-MX1.

The ideas of challenge and competition characterizing each race, were provided by the show “FAME”. Once the Champions left the podium, the world-famous musical cheered up the audience thanks to a perfectly coordinated ballet, together with emotional music.

The final event of 2006 ended with all Champions on the stage, showing their shining trophies to the guests and giving the many media the chance to shoot the last image of 2006: the shine of the year of records.

The protagonists of an exciting 2006 season

Giuseppe Luongo: “It was a great event; it was the best way to end the season and celebrate the champions, the organizers and the Federations. The place is the fantastic, and unique in the world: the greatest champions and artists in the world celebrate here. Our sport grew a lot, but the level is going to become higher and higher. We want to continue like this!”.
