Motocross of Nations Set For Historic Return to the United States
BUDDS CREEK, Maryland – For just the second time in its storied 60-year history, the world’s most prestigious motocross race – the FIM Motocross of Nations – will land on American soil next September.
Budds Creek Motocross Park, located an hour from Washington D.C. in scenic southern Maryland, will host the event on September 22-23, 2007, and will begin accepting ticket orders on December 1, just in time for the Christmas season.
A large turnout of American supporters including Budds Creek promoter Jonathan Beasley and a full complement of his key staff members who will manage the event in 2007 -- was on hand for the 60th edition of the Motocross of Nations last month in England. America’s victory before a crowd approaching 50,000 fans provided the United States with a record-setting 17th win in the event, which pits three-rider national teams against each other in a unique and exciting format.

Teams from Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, North America, Central America and South America will converge on Budds Creek Motocross Park to challenge the supremacy of AMA Team USA, and bookings are brisk as fans from around the world plan ahead to be on hand for all of the action.
The return of the Motocross of Nations to the United States will come exactly 20 years after New York’s Unadilla Valley Sports Center hosted the 1987 event in its only other North American appearance. That year’s renewal took place in atrocious rainy conditions as three AMA riders destined for the Motorcycle Hall of Fame – Bob Hannah, Jeff Ward and Rick Johnson – led America to a hard-fought victory.
There will be two exciting days of on-track action at Budds Creek, beginning with practice and three crucial qualifying races on Saturday, September 22. Only the top 20 qualifying teams will make it through to the Motocross of Nations on Sunday afternoon.
In the Motocross of Nations, each rider will take part in two point-paying motos, giving each three-rider team a total of six starts. The best five results are counted and determine the overall team standings.
Since the creation of the Motocross of Nations in 1947, eight different nations have taken home the championship trophy, led by the 17 wins of Team USA, 16 by Great Britain and 15 for Belgium.
In addition to the Motocross of Nations, Budds Creek will offer AMA-sanctioned stadium motocross racing, open to all amateur riders, on Friday and Saturday evenings. Amateurs will also have a unique chance to ride on the spectacular Motocross of Nations track in a Friday practice session.
For a limited time, fans can purchase Special Access passes that will admit them to the paddock area for three hours on Saturday and again on Sunday. Holders of those passes (limited to the first 2,000 orders received) will be able to rub elbows with the stars and get up close and personal with the exotic works bikes from the world’s leading manufacturers. Meanwhile, all ticket holders will be treated to the superb public viewing areas provided by Budds Creek’s natural amphitheater setting.
