Shane McElrath on Detroit 450SX Main Event: “Friese straight-up T-boned me... It’s a baby move. That was pretty pathetic”

In his latest vlog, Shane McElrath covered the incident between him and Vince Friese early in the Detroit 450SX main event. Friese took out McElrath early in the race, which also collected Cole Thompson, too.

Friese came through the checkered flag 16th, as McElrath came back from 21st before finishing 14th. After the race, Friese was penalized for “Aggressive/Reckless Riding”—the second time he received this penalty so far in 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, meaning he was penalized ten championship points, three license points plus a fine.
McElrath said the following on Friese’s takeout in his vlog:
“On like the second lap, Friese straight-up T-boned me. Pretty sorry, honestly. I mean, the thing is, I caught him in like five laps after that. So, it’s just…yeah, it’s a baby move. That was pretty pathetic. My bike was pretty banged up after that and, yeah, kinda did what I could. I was getting lapped at like halfway. And, yeah, just kinda got in no-man’s land because nobody else was really in front of me that I could see, so I just started getting lapped. Yeah, pretty frustrated with it. So….yeah, pretty frustrated with it.”
